Job Summary: Are you passionate about public health and making a positive impact in your community? The City of Columbia is seeking a dedicated and skilled Public Health Nurse to join our team. This role is essential in providing nursing services to individuals, families, and communities, focusing on prevention, assessment, risk reduction, and health status improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct Clinical Services: Provide case management, care coordination, and medication management. Administer immunizations and health screenings, educating patients about vaccinations, injuries, and diseases.
Disease Surveillance: Conduct communicable disease surveillance, case investigations, and contact tracing. Communicate with clients and healthcare providers to manage and prevent disease spread.
Community Engagement: Deliver communicable disease prevention services through community clinics and home visits. Manage vaccine inventory effectively.
Documentation: Maintain accurate and thorough records of all activities and findings.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or an Associate degree in Nursing with additional experience.
Experience: 1 to 3 years of nursing experience.
Licenses: Valid Missouri Nursing License for a registered professional nurse, CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, and a valid driver’s license.
Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge: Deep understanding of nursing education, vaccinations, communicable diseases, treatment options, public health nursing principles, and relevant laws and regulations.
Skills: Strong organizational skills, excellent verbal and written communication, ability to manage cases effectively, active listening, and problem-solving skills.
Abilities: Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate health programs, assess client health, manage confidential information, and provide guidance and training to less experienced staff.
Work Environment:
Settings: Work in various environments, including offices, outdoor settings, and vehicles.
Exposures: Possible exposure to hostile individuals, communicable diseases, and toxic substances. Work may involve stressful and negative interactions requiring high levels of tact.
Physical Demands:
Ability to exert up to 35 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds frequently. Tasks may require grasping, pushing, standing, walking, driving, and operating mechanical equipment.
