Production Planner/Buyer is a diverse position covering the planning, scheduling, releasing, and tracking of workflow from the engineering department and through the purchasing, fabrication, and assembly in the manufacturing departments. The primary role of this position is to plan and procure materials for the in-plant production fabrication of precision machinery in a low volume, high technology, high variation product mix produced in a project driven build-to-order production working environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Include the following and other duties as assigned. • Function as the focal point in creating a production schedule for projects and products using the best combination of ERP and other tools such as Excel. The production schedule's purpose is to provide a means to track and manage daily manufacturing workload, provide feedback to project manager on in-house vs. subcontracted manufacturing hours, and provide regular reporting on manufacturing status. • Interface with engineers, production, and project managers daily to be familiar with the status of all parts and assemblies in your assigned projects. • Research and assign manufacturing times and due dates on parts as needed. • Monitor quality, service, and delivery issues, and take corrective actions as needed. • Understand technical systems as assigned and manage the critical aspects of the design and schedule. • Stay current and familiar with the status of all parts and assemblies within your assigned projects while balancing conflicting demands on time and resources. • Respond to assigned purchasing needs to obtain competitive quotations, select and qualify vendors, and manage the performance of those vendors • Source and qualify new vendors, especially for critical fabrication and specialized components. • Present project status updates on regular basis and be accountable for results. • Place purchase orders for MRO buying and other production material. Maintain and develop reporting documentation on status of Purchase Orders and Inventory. • Monitor material and supply inventories through computer information systems and physical methods.
Required Skills: • Experience with engineered-to-order products, especially precision machinery. • Ability to understand and interpret engineering drawings and related fabrication processes, as well as a solid knowledge of electromechanical components • Ability to read and understand fabrication drawings and specifications. • In-depth ERP/MRP knowledge is required, APICS/ASCM is a plus. • Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills are required. • Ability to change direction and handle multiple responsibilities and tasks on a regular basis. • Competent with computer software such as Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, MS Project). • Experience working within an ISO quality plan a plus.
Salary Range: $90K - $100K
