Job Description:

The Managing Clerk will be responsible for the day-to-day support of the Firm's practice groups by providing in-depth expertise in docketing, court rules, procedures, legal proceedings, and case trial activity.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance and record all incoming and outgoing documents in the docket database and calculate and record procedural deadlines and due dates.
  • Responsible for electronic filings in state and federal courts. Must be familiar with and keep up to date on all filing rules, procedures and judge's individual practices.
  • Monitor case progress in state and federal courts, obtain decisions and orders, obtain docket updates and communicate case status changes to responsible attorneys.
  • Effectively communicate and present information as well as respond to procedural inquiries and questions from attorneys and staff.
  • Establish and manage an internal timetable for completing work assignments and docketing deadlines in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Perform research on court rules and procedures at the direction of attorneys and staff.
  • Ensure completion of ongoing work projects such as docket audits, case monitoring audits, case management projects, attorney information management, etc.
  • Keep current on industry standards and determine if procedures need to be updated.
  • Develop and maintain case filing practices and protocols
  • Direct support staff on hard copy filings where appropriate and necessary, such as for New York Court of Appeals cases;
  • Oversee case and record intake processes;
  • Develop and maintain case closure practices and protocols, including digitization of physical files, followed by archival, storage, and/or disposal of such files;
  • Act as liaison with court personnel ? establish and maintain good working relations with court personnel including process servers and couriers
  • Support projects such as, Docket Audits, Outstanding Motions Lists, Appeals Lists, Business Development Lists, etc.

Qualifications:

A minimum of 10 years of supervisory and case management experience, with an interest in and commitment to the professional development, training and support of attorneys, paralegals, client service coordinators, legal interns, and administrative staff.

Bachelor's degree

Knowledge of CourtAlert, PACER, Lexis Nexis Courtlink and all other softwares specific
