The College is the largest provider of allied health professionals for the state of North Carolina with departments in Addictions and Rehabilitation Studies, Clinical Laboratory Science, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Health Services and Information Management, Nutrition Science, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Physician Assistant Studies. Job Duties:
The College of Allied Health Sciences at East Carolina University is seeking candidates for a full-time 12-month position as a Senior Academic Support Specialist to facilitate student retention and success, interprofessional student development opportunities, and related support services to CAHS undergraduate and graduate students, focusing on the overall education experience and the achievement of expected learning outcomes.
The successful candidate will:
Develop, implement, and evaluate early proactive and early intervention support initiatives for student success.
Provide training, programs, and interventions that support academic, personal, and professional student success to enhance students' sense of belonging and wellness.
Serve as a consultative resource for students and faculty regarding complex student support situations.
Collaborate with the CAHS Interprofessional Educational Task Force to provide interprofessional education, focusing on activities that foster effective teamwork, individual emotional intelligence, and effective communication skills.
Collaborate with faculty and leadership to organize, deliver, and evaluate workshops and independent learning modules on topics such as: evidence-based learning techniques and strategies, time management, exam preparation, self-regulated learning skills, professional development, work-life balance, and other areas impacting student success.
Provide individual and small-group learning opportunities for students to enhance their study skills, clinical reasoning skills, professional development and wellness.
Counsel students who require test accommodations and ensure students' introduction/referral to ECU Disability Support Services.
Respond to students with academic difficulties with evidence-based interventions designed to improve performance.
Counsel students needing remediation in courses in consultation with program directors and department chairs as needed.
Consult with individual faculty to implement remediation plans and supplemental instruction in compliance with program-specific accreditation requirements.
Develop directed initiatives for specific subgroups of diverse healthcare learners such as first-generation college students, disadvantaged students, learners with disabilities, nontraditional learners, etc.
Seek opportunities to grow professionally to enhance ability to fulfill these duties.

Minimum Education/Experience:
Master's degree in the field of counseling, clinical mental health counseling, psychology, healthcare, or healthcare-related field. Two years' experience in a post-secondary setting. Experience as an educator, counselor, academic counselor, education supervisor, or related field.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation:
None
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
Possess knowledge of psychological and educational assessment techniques.
Experience working with health professionals undergraduate and graduate students.
Experience with Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice.
Experience in an academic setting providing intervention strategies to promote well-being.
Experience in conducting educational workshops, seminars, and small group sessions.
Understand cognitive development and emotional intelligence.
Experience in online student support.
