The Senior Principal S oftware E ngineer is a key technical leadership role in our Neuroscience technology design center . In this position , you will have responsibility for technical leadership in Digital Health cloud application and technology development for implantable deep brain stimulation, spinal cord stimulation, targeted drug delivery, and pelvic health medical devices . This role will provide key leadership, deep subject matter expertise , technical/project oversight and training/coaching.

A Day in the Life

  • Take a leadership role in the d esign and develop ment of high integrity software for medical devices and systems

  • Take a leadership role in identifying and implementing best-in-class software development processes, methods, tools and standards

  • Work with senior leadership , cross-functional stakeholders and software team to develop and maintain the software technology roadmap

  • Mentor software developers and provide technical guidance as necessary

  • Create innovative technical solutions which lead to the development and introduction of new technologies , products , and processes

  • Design, build, and test web applications in global cloud infrastructure as a service environment

Must Have: Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelor degree in a technically related field

  • Min 10 years of relevant experience

  • Advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.

Nice to Have

  • Expert working knowledge of Java and Javascript , Kotlin desired

  • Highly knowledgeable in several web frameworks - Spring, JPA, Hibernate, Angular, RxJS desired

  • Messaging - deep knowledge of messaging and streaming solutions like ActiveMQ, Amazon SQS, and Kafka

  • Database - strong experience with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and data modeling

  • Experience building applications for high availability and scalability

  • Excellent understanding of Systems Engineering

  • Effective communication and presentation skills

  • Strong leadership and team commitment

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$169,600.00 - $254,400.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance , Health Savings Account , Healthcare Flexible Spending Account , Life insurance, Long-term disability leave , Dependent daycare spending account , Tuition assistance/reimbursement , and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
