Job Summary

Assist R&D Manager to develop plans and approaches and aligned to, project milestones delivered in a timely manner with particular personal responsibilities. Monitor if the products are safe and support new products development by providing regulatory aspects of the information to ensure that the products meet all legal requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are considered essential to the job. Qualified individuals must have the ability – with or without reasonable accommodation – to perform the following duties but not limited to:

Development of new products

  1. Develop new products and be able to execute process from ideation to commercialization.
  2. Measure and proactively prevent any potential risk in any aspects in product development in order to deliver successful commercialization and provide such advice to the other member of R&D in need.
  3. Research consumer awareness or trends, relating to product development (including legal issues). Execution of research on consumer taste preference through validation internally and/or externally.
  4. Develop new label of the ingredient list and the nutrition facts and recommend changes to current products if necessary to comply with regulations.
  5. Research and study regulations and act as an invaluable reference source for R&D, Marketing and Manufacturing staff.
  6. Cross training with other functions within R&D other than regulation aspect, including seasoning, noodle, packaging, etc.

Quality assurance (in corporation with QA department).

  1. Assure the quality of the products, to provide the consumers with safe and high quality products.
  2. Assure all of products are complied with applicable laws & regulations.
  3. Assure all of raw materials and packaging are complied with applicable laws & regulations.
  4. Understand various domestic and international laws and regulations relating to food and enforcing agency as well as their jurisdictions, for example, but not limited to; food labeling requirements, food additives including FCS, etc.
  5. Understand definitions of terms and conditions used in each laws and regulations and interpret as it fits into our products or business to support project success.
  6. Prepare certificates and documents and respond with product information requested by customer and/or through consumer outreach making sure to meet requirements within the meaning of confidentiality.

Quality and Process control (in corporation with QC and Production department of the plants)

  1. Conduct production trials to assess manufacturing feasibility and capability in commercialization.
  2. Control product quality
  3. Monitor production startup of new and revised products to confirm plant capability and conformance to design criteria, train plant operators to ensure successful implementation and launch.
  4. Improve current processes if necessary.
  5. Prepare all necessary document such as, but not limited to, Standard Formulation, Standard Process, Nutrition Fact, Ingredient Declaration, Allergy Statement, Allergen Program table, any other necessary standard/process in commercialization, and their management.
  6. Execute process management with respect to products, based on each regulation.

Cost reduction (in corporation with the Purchasing Dept.)

  1. Develop, select and negotiate the prices for new materials. Select, negotiate and revise current materials and vendors to reduce the cost of the current materials.
  2. Pursuit global purchasing through construction of international purchasing networks.
  3. Pursuit cost reduction from the point of view of efficiency improvement in production.

Other (Includes shared tasks with R&D Assistant as backup)

  1. Present oral and written updates including product demonstrations to team and customers
  2. Train other team members.
  3. Create purchase orders & process invoice in Nav, purchase lab apparatus, office supplies and arrange for shipping.
  4. Check material and supply inventory and request samples from warehouse or purchase from stores.
  5. Conduct morning taste test with production samples, complete reports and notify production dept.

Qualifications and Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or equivalent combination of education and experience. B.S. degree in nutrition, food science, or food technology is preferred.
  • 4+ years of related experience in the consumer prepackaged food product development and/or training.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Bilingual is preferred.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office, ERP System, MS Teams
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to define and to compartmentalize problems, causes, variables, actions taken.
