At Vitalant, we don't just collect blood-we connect lives, giving hope and healing to patients and communities across the nation. We're looking for a passionate and visionary Senior Director of Development to take a lead role in driving our mission forward through impactful fundraising.

In this key position, you'll engage, inspire, and partner with past, current, and prospective donors, building lasting relationships and securing transformational gifts of five figures and beyond. Collaborating with the President of the Foundation, senior management, and other Vitalant leaders, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping and executing a national fundraising strategy that directly supports our lifesaving mission.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Provides effective leadership by example, guidance and resources. Coaches and mentors other Development team members.

  • Work with foundation president to establish short-term and long-term fundraising strategy/goals. Leads the Fundraising Portfolio Management: Responsible for managing a portfolio of donors and reaching established annual fundraising goals.

  • Manages the collaboration with Vitalant regional leadership/personnel to ensure fundraising efforts are consistent with operational directions and needs. Identifies and helps recruit potential Vitalant Council members or Foundation Board of Trustees.

  • Understand and communicate complex, scientific ideas and concepts. Develops complex relationship-deepening solicitation and stewardship plans customized to each prospect.

  • Identify, investigate, write proposals to raise funds supporting Vitalant's mission.

  • Offers exceptional fundraising donor stewardship to build and maintain relationships with key supporters, their families and businesses. Develops and maintains deep understanding of key tenets of philanthropy and building a culture of trust in philanthropic relationships. Embodies professionalism and has the social savvy to represent the company at community events and gatherings. Demonstrates the company's core values through behavior. Assure s prompt acceptance, deposit, acknowledgement and recognition of gifts.

Requirements

Knowledge/ Education

Bachelor's Degree required in Communications, Marketing, Sales, Business or related field required.

Master's Degree preferred.

Experience

Ten years of management of development functions required.

Five years of fundraising experience in a non-profit setting preferred; or equivalent experience in sales, marketing and communication in the for-profit environment preferred.

Foundational understanding of "best practices" and commitment to ethical fundraising required.

Experience in a health care setting preferred.

Experience in personally opening doors, cultivation and successfully closing gifts preferred.

A measurable track record of increasing revenue from gifts strongly preferred.

Significant experience with regional funding community preferred.

Skills/Abilities

Must possess the skills and abilities to successfully perform all assigned duties and responsibilities.

Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
