Job Description

Metro State University, a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System, is seeking to hire an Assistant or Associate Professor of Industrial Engineering. This is a full-time, tenure-track position within the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and will start on August 18, 2025.

Responsibilities

Faculty members are expected to:

  • Demonstrate the ability to teach Industrial Engineering courses, and related courses in mathematics, statistics, and data science, effectively to a post-traditional student population and contribute to meaningful assessment of student learning.
  • Engage in scholarly activity, creative achievement, and/or research.
  • Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study.
  • Contribute to student growth and development through advising and assistance.
  • Engage in service to the university and community.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to serving a diverse student body by delivering a student-centered education and using approaches that support equitable outcomes for all students.
  • Provide excellent learning environments through in-person, online, and/or hybrid course modalities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of a masters degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field, such as Operations Research or Systems Engineering.
  • Demonstrated interest in faculty position that prioritizes teaching and emphasizes teaching excellence.
  • A plan for scholarly activity, creative achievement, and/or research in the specified discipline(s), or related disciplines.
  • Effective communication skills (written & verbal) to communicate with a variety of persons and groups.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with students and colleagues who are culturally, economically, and linguistically diverse.
  • Specific Technical, Computer, and/or Software skills (as needed).

Preferred Qualification

  • A completed terminal degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field, such as Operations Research or Systems Engineering.
  • Experience working in industry or as an industry consultant.
  • Experience pursuing or renewing ABET accreditation for an undergraduate engineering program.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness teaching at a post-secondary level.
  • Experience developing course curricula at a post-secondary institution.
  • Demonstrated contributions to assessment of student learning at a post-secondary institution.
  • Professional development and/or expertise in culturally responsive pedagogy, anti-racist pedagogy, and/or universal design.
  • Experience as an academic advisor for students at post-secondary institution.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics currently offers programs in Industrial & Applied Mathematics, Mathematics, Mathematics Teaching, and Data Science, and is in the process of developing a program in Industrial Engineering with a tentative start in Fall Semester 2026. Students in our programs gain the analytic skills needed to study and solve a wide range of problems. They also develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills that are useful in a wide range of careers in science, technology, engineering, business, actuarial science, and education. In a typical academic year, the faculty member will teach five courses, split between two semesters. In addition, the faculty member will engage in scholarship, advising, and service.

The Department is housed in the College of Sciences, which also contains programs in computer science/cybersecurity as well as the natural sciences. Opportunities for interdisciplinary studies within the department and college are strong.

Salary: Salary is commensurate with education and experience and is determined by the salary placement process as outlined in the Inter Faculty Organization (IFO) Master Agreement.
