The University of Pittsburgh’s Renal-Electrolyte Division is seeking a Laboratory Technician I to perform laboratory experiments, sample analysis, as well as maintaining equipment.
Duties will include:
General maintenance of the lab including biological waste collection.
Clean/maintain metabolic cages.
Order supplies.
Retrieve and return mice to the animal facility.
Make up stock solutions.
Maintain cultured cells.
Maintain and genotype mouse colonies.
Section, mount and stain paraffin and frozen tissue samples.
Assist the lab faculty with their various experiments.
We encourage candidates with combination of education and experience as well as possess problem-solving skills and ability to exercise judgement in a variety of situations, but will be under the direct supervision of the PI. Essential Functions
Performs laboratory testing and some analysis, including organizes, prepares, and tests multiple types of specimen samples.
Operates and maintains applicable laboratory equipment for job functions.
Keeps detailed, accurate, and timely data and log books. Organizes and documents results.
Sterilizes, maintains, and cleans lab equipment; prepares work areas; and maintains cleanliness throughout laboratory.
Maintains inventories and assists with ordering proper supplies and chemicals.
Physical Effort
Must be able to walk, stand, or sit for extended periods of time. Lift up to 30lbs without assistance.
