Location/Division Specific Information



US - Albuquerque, NM - Remote. This role supports customers in the Albuquerque area Monday through Friday. Residency in the surrounding Albuquerque area is required.


Travel needed approximately 25% to customer sites in nearby states.


Electron Microscopy business enables customers to find meaningful answers to questions that accelerate breakthrough discoveries, increase efficiency, and ultimately change the world. How will you make an impact?



Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a Field Service Engineer for the Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD) who will be responsible for on-site installation, servicing, and repair of sophisticated equipment and systems. In addition to ensuring the quality of system equipment, engineers will provide customers with training on system operation and maintenance. They will also act as a liaison between the company and customers regarding administrative and technical matters for assigned projects. Candidates with equivalent experience are encouraged to apply.


This position is ideal for an experienced service engineer wanting to be involved with a dynamic team and exposed to a constant variety of customer application areas.




  • Conduct on-site installation of our equipment and follow testing procedures to ensure accurate functionality.

  • Conduct on-site scheduled planned maintenance visits

  • Provide repair support for customers and other field service personnel

  • Cultivate and develop positive working relationships with customers, system users and company personnel

  • Complete technical training, as needed

  • Travel, often on short notice, to customer sites to resolve problems or support other field service personnel

  • Complete and submit field service reports

  • Be able to perform PM on assigned tools

  • Partner with colleagues to acquire technical knowledge to problem-solve systems solutions

  • Provide training for customers and users on system maintenance

  • Provide appropriate input in writing updating and correcting various Thermo Fisher system documentation

  • Provide feedback for various reports including identifying and isolating problems with system

  • Act as a subject authority and resource for training


Keys to Success:



Education


  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience in electronic systems.

Experience


  • 5 yrs min. experience of hands on technical experience installing, repairing and calibrating sophisticated analysis tools such as SEM, TEM, FIB or similar systems preferred.

  • Must have a detailed understanding and extensive experience solving ultra-high vacuum and high voltage systems.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities


  • Ability solidify relationships with customer

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills; must be proficiency in English

  • Ability to resolve sophisticated systems and subsystems down to component level

  • Literate in MS DOS and Windows software environments

  • Able to read and interpret schematics

  • Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to secure entrance to US Government laboratories and facilities, if required

  • Must possess a valid driver's license

  • Valid passport and travel regionally - 25% domestic travel to nearby states as need
