Job Description:

Heluna Health invites applications for the full-time—temporary Community Programs Manager. Bridge HIV is a grant-funded research unit affiliated with the San Francisco Department of Public Health and the University of California San Francisco. Bridge HIV has been searching for new and innovative ways to fight HIV/AIDS since the onset of the epidemic in the early 1980s. The Bridge HIV Investigators are global leaders in HIV vaccine and prevention science, epidemiology of HIV infection, epidemiology and prevention of other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), HIV medication adherence, combination HIV prevention strategies, HIV/STI prevention in adolescents, HIV research training methods and COVID-19 vaccine research. Under the supervision of the Clinical Research Director, the Community Programs Manager will oversee and manage the community education and recruitment efforts for Bridge HIV.

This is a temporary, grant-funded, full time, benefitted position. Employment is provided by Heluna Health.

100% in person position

Salary: $134,066 annually

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Leadership

• Demonstrate strong commitment to anti-racism and health equity.

• In collaboration with Bridge HIV Directors, develop and implement strategic vision for community engagement and recruitment for Bridge HIV.

• Develop community education and recruitment strategies; assess and revise to meet education and recruitment goals, maximizing Community Program budget allocations.

• Manage several program budgets to fund outreach related efforts over the course of the fiscal timeline

• Actively participate in regular management meetings; build management and leadership skills.

• Represent Bridge HIV on regularly scheduled clinical network conference calls.

• Attend network semi-annual or annual meetings and other related meetings, as needed.

• Organize and lead weekly team meetings.

• Attend All-Staff and Clinical Operations meetings, provide recruitment updates, and ensure attendance from Community Programs team members.

• Foster a cohesive, innovative team environment with open and clear communication and collaboration that promotes excellence.

Study Recruitment Responsibilities

• Develop recruitment plans that meet or exceed specified recruitment objectives.

• Develop annual recruitment plans for grant-making organizations and/or as part of grant applications; provide periodic reports to funders.

• Oversee all recruitment activities including strategy, scheduling, staffing, collaboration with partner organizations, and adherence to grant and sponsor requirements.

• Participate regularly in recruitment activities, e.g., street fairs, clinic recruitment; accompany recruitment staff to observe performance and coach.

• Oversee development of print, electronic, and social media recruitment and education materials in collaboration with the Senior Graphic Designer.

• Develop and manage submissions to the Community Advisory Group (CAG), IRB and other review bodies.

• Develop and evaluate recruitment metrics and reports in collaboration with the database manager and Clinical Research Coordinators.

Community Education Responsibilities

• Develop community education plans to disseminate information about HIV and STI prevention, Bridge HIV’s studies, and to support recruitment efforts.

• Implement community education activities, e.g.:

o Establish and manage relationships with clinics that serve study populations.

o Develop and provide oral presentations on the Bridge HIV’s work and general, study-related topics to community-based organizations and/or their constituents.

o Generate community education content for Bridge HIV’s social media channels.

o Train and supervise Community Programs staff on community education content.

o Organize community forums to discuss relevant HIV prevention-related issues.

• Contribute to grant applications that require a community education component.

Community Advisory Group (CAG) & Youth Advisory Board (YAB) Coordination

• Schedule, organize and facilitate monthly CAG/YAB meetings.

• Oversee CAG/YAB minutes development and distribution.

• Serve as primary point of contact at Bridge HIV for CAG/YAB members; respond to inquiries and/or solicit participation in a variety of activities in support of Bridge HIV’s work.

• Develop and update training materials for CAG/YAB members.

• Recruit and train new CAG/YAB members.

• Oversee, implement, and update CAG/YAB membership terms and guidelines.

• Coordinate an annual CAG’/YAB strategic planning retreat.

Staff Supervision

• Supervise and manage the Community Programs team and activities.

• Work with each team member to develop and monitor individual work plans.

• Organize and facilitate weekly supervisory meetings to monitor deliverables, provide feedback, and discuss performance.

• Oversee the community programs staff schedule and outreach shifts.

• Oversee participation of community programs staff in additional projects as assigned.

• Complete required annual evaluations for each team member.

• Assess training needs and ensure training goals are met.

• Prepare and deliver protocol-specific trainings as needed.

• Ensure recruiter adherence to study recruitment guidelines and SOPs.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field

• Ability to understand and explain clinical trial protocols, including inclusion/exclusion criteria, demographics, and disease prevalence

• Ability to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate strategic plans

• Experience in budget development and management

• At least three years’ supervisory experience

• Experience in community engagement, education, and/or recruitment activities.

• Excellent written and oral communication and meeting facilitation skills

• Enthusiastic and professional attitude; strong “can-do” approach to work

• Honest, transparent and ethical

• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

• Experience working in communities heavily impacted by HIV

• Knowledge of and sensitivity to diverse communities, particularly communities of color and gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender communities, and adolescents

Desired Qualifications

• Spanish language proficiency

• Clinical trials experience, including participant recruitment

• Background and experience in community education in support of scientific research

• Grant writing experience
