Supports the mission of the Pharmacy Department by ensuring that the right patient receives the right medications in a safe and timely manner under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist. Develops a full understanding of the drug distribution system and demonstrates competency in to perform all duties associated with delivering medications to the patient care areas. Uses Omnicell automated dispensing system, Epic computer software and prepares IV admixtures including Chemotherapy. The Lead Technician will be responsible for the oversight, accountability and management of the technician assigned workflow to ensure all tasks and required activities are completed. Additionally, the Lead Technician will be responsible for reengineering and executing workflow modifications to ensure efficient operations are always in place to support unforeseen circumstances related to staffing deficits, system breakdowns and patient safety matters.
Essential Functions:
Able to staff in all Technician essential roles and functions within the designated Pharmacy locations
Provide guidance and assistance to technician staff related to medication distribution activities in addition to Controlled Substances II- V requirements in accordance with the hospital established policy, state and federal regulations
Responsible to manage schedule changes to ensure adequacy of staffing requirements are met and responsible to escalate appropriately to the Pharmacy Operations Manager, as needed
Responsible to escalation matters in congruency with the Pharmacy Department Escalation Guidance document to ensure full stability of the operation and patient care needs are consistently met
Facilitates onboarding training of all new employees working in conjunction with the Pharmacy Operation Manager to ensure employee competency prior to independently staffing in addition to developing and modifying competency training materials in accordance with approved process changes, regulatory and accreditation requirements
Provides coordination and direction to ensure all medication and supply chain needs of the department to serve our patients are met related; routine inventory management and optimization, recalls, shortages, pre-packing, supplemental emergency kit and batch preparation of oral and intravenous products.
Participates in department process improvements and plans of correction as delegated by direct report.
Runs Pharmacy Technician change of shift huddles daily in addition to safety huddles as needed to ensure staff's full understanding related to hospital and department need-to-know information supported by timely
communication
Under the direction of the Pharmacy Operations Manager, collaborates with the Pharmacy Informatics Team to assist with Omnicell Process Improvement and Optimization Efforts and is the point of contact to coordinate vendor visits for troubleshooting and repairs.
Participates on department and hospital ad hoc groups and/or committees as assigned
Participates in recruiting and interviewing, recognizes other team members and provides feedback to direct report related to employee performance information and employee performance problems

• High school diploma required or GED
Experience:
• Two years of Pharmacy Technician experience required
License/ Registration:
Successful completion of all training competencies
Must be exCPhT, or PCTB certified
• Must be Registered with the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician

• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to walk and stand 70% of day and possess the ability to lift up to 35 pounds
