Under the direction of the Nurse Director, the Informatics Nurse participates in the ongoing planning, implementation, training, evaluation and maintenance of a variety of systems used to support the delivery of patient care and practice of physicians, nurses and other clinical staff.
This includes but is not limited to patient care documentation, computerized provider order entry, electronic medication administration and other clinical systems. The Informatics Nurse provides project leadership, direction and technical expertise in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of clinical information systems in Perioperative Services, Endoscopy Services, and Cardiovascular Services.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Indicate key areas of responsibilities, major job duties, special projects and key objectives for this position.
Plans, implements and evaluates clinical systems' training programs
Provides clinical applications training to nursing employees encompassing use of appropriate teaching tools to meet the diverse learning needs of all prospective users to improve system usage and patient care.
Serves as an expert user resource to physicians, residents, nurses and other clinical staff on new applications and application enhancements
Provides system testing for new clinical systems and for upgrades and enhancements of existing modules
Provides in person support, as needed, for the implementation of new clinical systems, upgrades and enhancements of existing modules and system downtimes
Responds positively to requests for assistance in a timely manner
Promotes an environment that fosters professional growth, adult learning, open communication and collaborative relationships
Uses clinical knowledge and critical thinking skills to facilitate moving paper-based systems and processes to computer-based systems and processes
Uses clinical knowledge and critical thinking skills to analyze trends in clinical data
Collaborates with Hospital Information Systems (HIS) staff and is the primary liaison for all clinical departments
Collaborates with Central scheduling team
Collaborates with department leaders to facilitate reporting and analytics
Demonstrates knowledge of the interrelationships between Epic clinical modules and other clinical systems
Maintains accurate documentation of all system problems and their resolution
Collaborates with Supply Chain and maintains up to date preference cards
Collaborates with onboarding process for system access, i.e., Provation
Participates in departmental and hospital wide quality improvement activities
Assists with evaluation of patient outcomes over time
Assists with identifying evidence-based practice
Participates collaboratively in meetings/committees as required/requested to assist in addressing issues around clinical data and clinical workflow
Attends scheduled staff meetings, thus enhancing staff knowledge of system familiarity
Qualifications
A. Job Knowledge and Skills:

• Demonstrated ability to support advanced clinical applications from user provisioning to creation and maintenance of dictionaries to creation of test scripts for application implementation and upgrades.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize relative to time frames and to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve complex systems problems and ability to prioritize, manage, and implement complex projects.
B. Education:
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field strongly preferred.
• Master's degree in Nursing, Informatics or related field preferred.
C. Experience:
• Required: 3 years of development, evaluation, and implementation of Electronic Health Record (EHR) or other clinical applications
• Required: Minimum of 3 years previous nursing experience in a health care institution of similar size and complexity.
• Required: Experience with meeting facilitation
• Required: Experience with training
• Required: Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint)
• Preferred: Informatics Experience with OpTime, Cupid, Radiant
• Preferred: Perioperative Nursing experience
• Preferred: OR or PACU
D. Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations (if applicable) :
• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required
