IU Public Safety directly oversees the IU Police Department, University Environmental Health and Safety, and Emergency Management and Continuity with a team of approximately 300 dedicated staff on a 24/7/365 operational basis across all campuses.
Job Summary
Provides professional and technical knowledge and expertise to support comprehensive environmental health and safety programs for given campus(es); communicate on regulations/standards and programs/policies/guides to develop sound, workable action plans.
Reviews, recommends, and ensures follow-up on appropriate action plans regarding federal, state, local and university environmental health and safety requirements and initiatives.
Serves as the campus primary EMC contact for all-hazard emergency planning and coordination; develops, manages, and trains on action plans.
Implements and assesses compliance with various occupational safety and health, environmental management, and laboratory safety programs/policies/plans/guides at campus assigned.
Assists campus in their development of policies and procedures, as well as training for general emergency preparedness, hazard-specific topics, First Aid, CPR, etc.

EDUCATION
Required
Bachelor's degree (preferably in Occupational Health Science, Environmental Health Science, Emergency Management, Disaster/Risk Management, Fire Science/Hazardous Materials, or a related field)
WORK EXPERIENCE
Preferred
Some experience in environmental health, emergency management, fire safety, public safety, or a related field.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Preferred
Associate Emergency Manager within 2 years from date of hire
Certified Emergency Manager within 2 years from date of hire

Working Conditions / Demands
The employee in this position will have excellent communication skills. This position is very active and requires moving about the workspace and ascending/descending stairs or ladders. The role requires frequently moving objects that weigh up to 50 pounds. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
