New Mexico Junior College seeks a deeply committed and experienced academic leader to inspire, innovate and support our students, faculty and staff in our pathway to ever-greater fulfillment of our mission, vision and values. As the communitys college, serving a diverse and richly multi-cultural student body and as a Hispanic Serving Institution, our Provost & VP for Academic Affairs will bring focus, research, motivation and growth to our quest for productive teaching and learning that leads to student success in completion, and certificate and degree attainment.

In furthering our college-wide dedication to serving our students, the Provost/VPAA will be working collaboratively and creatively with our faculty, support staff and all members of the Presidents Executive Council with particular coordination with the Vice President of Student Affairs to ensure wrap-around support for all students. Of particular focus will be:

  • Promoting and supporting student success, student engagement and advocating for student needs
  • Strategic leadership in faculty recruitment, development, teaching and committee assignments
  • Working with faculty to build strong and direct bridges to successful persistence to completion for students for whom English is a second language
  • Potential restructuring of the Academic Affairs unit
  • Strengthening and supporting Dual Enrollment teaching and learning
  • Program assessment and new program development/curricular innovation
  • Championing DEIB awareness, commitment and efforts
  • Demonstrated experience with regional and programmatic accreditation
  • Higher Learning Commission re-accreditation oversight
  • Attending and presenting reports as requested to the New Mexico Junior College Board of Trustees and the Student Success Committee of the Board
  • Developing and maintaining the Academic Unit budget and grant administration
  • Working closely with faculty leadership to support faculty initiatives and resolve faculty issues
  • May serve on various campus committees as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
  • Nothing contained herein shall limit the President in assigning the employee to any of the various college activities for which he/she would be qualified in order to meet the needs of New Mexico Junior College.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Higher Education Leadership, the Ph.D. or other relevant terminal degree attainment. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible institutional experience, including at least four years supervising in the Academic Affairs arena. Demonstrated effectiveness and sensitivity in working with diverse academic and socioeconomic student populations. Demonstrated experience with national accreditation

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of College and department policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of methods, principles, and practices of supervision and leadership.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Skill in budget management.
  • Skill in accessing informational resources.
  • Skill in interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and standard computer software.

This is a twelve-month exempt position. Standard benefits apply. The salary range for this position is $160,000 to $170,000.
