Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

Building Services provide full maintenance and repair services for all UNC facilities and ensure the proper operation of those facilities in support of the UNC mission of teaching, research and public service. Building Services supports more than 400 campus buildings with approximately 18 million gross square feet of space. The teams that provide quality maintenance, repair and construction services that support the teaching, research, and public service mission of the University include Campus Maintenance, EMCS, Facilities Operations Support, Housing Support, HVAC Systems, and Life Safety Services. Campus Maintenance operates, maintains and improves the physical environment of the University through a complete line of shop services that include carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, insulation, preventive maintenance and special laboratory equipment repair.


Position Summary:



A SIGN-ON BONUS OF $4,081 IS AVAILABLE FOR THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT OF THIS POSITION PAID IN 2 INSTALLMENTS WITHIN 12 MONTHS OF HIRE:
$2,040.50 WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE DATE & $2,040.50 12 MONTHS AFTER HIRE DATE.




Serves as an Insulator in Campus Maintenance-Insulation Shop. Reads and interprets construction blueprints and detailed job descriptions; orders materials and tools; performs insulation, asbestos abatement, and mold remediation; and communicates with customers.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.


Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Knowledge, skills, and abilities in insulation, asbestos abatement, and mold remediation. Ability to read and interpret blueprints. Ability to communicate with faculty, staff, and students. Ability to wear a respirator. AHERA Asbestos Abatement and Yearly AHERA Asbestos Abatement Refresher (TSCA Title II) Certification required. Ability to serve as a mandatory employee and report to work in support of essential (mandatory) University operations, even when adverse weather or other emergency conditions may require the University to close. NC Driver's License or ability to obtain one prior to start date.


Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Progressive experience in insulation, asbestos abatement, and mold remediation.


Special Physical/Mental Requirements :

Ability to work on hands and knees for extended periods of time; move objects weighing at least 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation; climb and work from high ladders and scaffolding up to 60 ft. or from the tops of buildings; ability to wear required PPE for the specific job, including but not limited to safety harnesses, fall protection, respirators, face masks or face shields, and protective gloves.

**ELIGIBILITY FOR SIGN-ON BONUS

The selected candidate for this position may be eligible for a sign-on bonus. Qualified applicants must apply and be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:


To be eligible for a Sign-on bonus, an individual must not have worked in a probationary, permanent, or time-limited appointment in the last 12 months as an employee in North Carolina state government, including but not limited to the judicial system, state executive branch agencies, and the university system in a position subject to the State Human Resources Act.




A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time (more than 20 hours a week) employee are eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working more than 20 hours and less than 40 hours per week).
