The Research Associate/ Software Developer position will support ongoing efforts underway for the Clinical Genome Resource (ClinGen) research program directed by Drs. Bradford Powell and Jonathan Berg. The software developer will implement tools as part of a scalable infrastructure, linking web-based applications, to assist in the curation of genetic information. The developer will work as part of the ClinGen resource-an NIH-funded consortium that aggregates, organizes and shares clinically-relevant information.
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.
Strong development skills in relevant programming languages (PHP, Javascript, python), and in techniques for modern software engineering (version control with git, automated testing, containerization/deployment technologies such as docker/openshift) are required. Experience with the specific platforms used (Laravel, VUE.js, Pyramid, hypothes.is) would be very helpful. Prior experience with standards for structured annotation in the web (e.g., W3C web annotation standard) is preferred. Although the immediate planned activities will deal with aggregate/deidentified data, the ideal candidate will have experience with data security standards for protected health information and other private data (e.g., HIPPA, FISMA).
Qualified candidates will demonstrate effective verbal and written communication, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and hold high professional standards for their own work and that of others. The ideal candidate will also be well-versed in genetics and genomic medicine. Candidates must have previous experience in management of small development groups or possess the interpersonal skills to supervise other junior members of the team.
