Position Summary:

The Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Medicine, seeks to hire a full-time child and adolescent psychology faculty member to work with adolescents and young adults to focus on the treatment of co-existing substance use behaviors. The psychologist will be clinically based in Butner, NC at the Youth Behavioral Hospital (YBH) with occasional time also spent in a training and teaching capacity at the Department of Psychiatry Chapel Hill. YBH is a newly established and innovative 50 plus patient child and adolescent psychiatric hospital with four individual specialized units serving patients and families.


This is a full-time fixed term (clinical) position with the University of North Carolina Department of Psychiatry. The rank will be based on the qualifications of the applicant. The department of psychiatry faculty is committed to clinical service, teaching and research and the department seeks to hire faculty with a commitment to this mission and to the service of people of North Carolina.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

* A doctoral degree in psychology, preferably Clinical or Counseling Psychology
* A minimum of three years of experience in the field
* Experience and success working well in a multidisciplinary environment
* Interest and experience working with underserved hospitalized youth and their families
* North Carolina Licensure, Psychology, HSP


Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Training in child/adolescent, adult, or family mental health including prior completion of an APA-approved internship specifically in a child training track, and a child and adolescent fellowship or an equivalent. The successful candidates will have experience with programming and individual therapies for children, adolescents, or young adults who require hospitalization. Training and experience with models of family therapy and specialized behavioral plans while not required are preferred. Experience in providing services from a trauma informed care model in an inpatient or more intensive psychiatric setting are important. Knowledge of trauma therapies such as trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy are important to this position in that the position will involve the training and teaching of nursing and recreational therapy staff, medical residents, and interdisciplinary faculty. Expertise in substance use and/or dialectical behavioral models of group therapy are strongly preferred.
