The Department of Athletics exists to provide educational and athletic opportunities to young men and women, to provide an environment for student-athletes to learn, advance and excel both academically and athletically, and to serve the interests of the University by complimenting and enhancing its diversity and quality of life. Through its athletic programs, the University seeks to unite alumni, faculty, administration and students in a common shared experience. The governing unit within the Department of Athletics is the Director's Office, which is the administrative office and clearinghouse for the entire Department of Athletics, and promotes the department's guiding principle of educating and inspiring through athletics. This unit provides support to administrators, coaches, staff members and student-athletes in order to provide and promote a premier intercollegiate athletic program for The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Department of Athletics is a highly visible public relations arm of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with statewide, national and international recognition.
The Assistant Director of Sports Performance - Olympic Sports will assist the Assistant Athletic Director/Director of Sports Performance - Olympic Sports with all aspects of the Strength and Conditioning program including but not limited to practice competition activities, player skill development, recruiting, directing and implementing plans for daily practices and competitions, organizing and administering clinics etc. and overall administrative tasks within the operation of the program. Must demonstrate integrity, leadership, a strong commitment and ability to motivate, teach, counsel and recruit academically qualified students.
Minimum of a bachelor's degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with at least 1 year of experience in relevant independent instructional or educational activities; specific minimum experience is at the discretion of the Director of Athletics.
2-5 years of coaching experience in an intercollegiate environment preferably at a Division I level. Knowledge of and familiarity of NCAA rules and regulations. Good organizational, interpersonal communications and computer skills necessary.
Prefer at least 1 year in relevant independent or educational activities.
Must be able to lift/move 25lbs or greater. May be required to navigate stairs. Attention to detail essential. Must be able to manage high volume, fast paced environment. May be subject to working in extreme weather conditions. Travel required.
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
