The Rubenstein Library is recruiting for 2 Rare Materials Catalogers. The Rare Materials Cataloger is responsible for the description of printed materials in all formats and single manuscript items, according to international standards and best practices, for the David M. Rubenstein Rare Book & Manuscript Library. They collaborate with staff across the library to ensure ideal descriptive outcomes for rare materials. They are a member of the Rare Materials Cataloging Section in the Rubenstein Library Technical Services (RLTS) Department.
Education:
Required: MLS from an ALA-accredited program or a combination of relevant education and experience.
Experience:
Required: Candidates should have one or more years of library work experience to obtain specialized knowledge of library systems and procedures; reading knowledge of at least one non-English foreign language, with an aptitude for working with materials in a range of foreign languages; and familiarity with metadata, description, and classification standards, such as RDA, DCRM suite, MARC21 formats, and LC classification. Candidates should be attentive to detail and extremely organized; adaptive to working in a dynamic environment prone to change; demonstrate excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; able to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team; demonstrate commitment to providing outstanding customer service.
