SUMMARY
The Sensory Scientist II is a more experienced position within the field of sensory science. They have advanced knowledge and expertise in studying and understanding human perception and sensory experiences related to various products or stimuli. Sensory Scientist II typically have more responsibilities and may take on leadership roles within sensory research projects. A Sensory Scientist II may also be involved in project management, data analysis, or contributing to the development of research proposals in support of USAARL in Ft. Rucker, AL.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) and a minimum of two to four (2-4) years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education/experience.
Must have an extensive understanding of human perception, advanced knowledge of sensory evaluation techniques, and statistical analysis methods.
Must possess excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret complex data accurately.
Effective communication skills are also important for presenting findings to stakeholders or clients and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Designing and leading sensory tests and experiments to evaluate the sensory properties of products, such as taste, smell, texture, appearance, and overall consumer experience.
Developing and implementing advanced sensory evaluation methodologies and protocols.
Collecting and analyzing data from sensory tests using statistical analysis techniques.
Interpreting and reporting complex sensory evaluation results to stakeholders or clients.
Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product developers, marketers, and quality assurance professionals, to optimize product attributes based on consumer preferences.
Conducting consumer research studies to understand consumer preferences, behavior, and acceptance of products.
Developing and implementing sensory training programs for panelists or other team members involved in sensory evaluation.
Managing sensory panels or recruiting and training panelists for sensory testing.
Staying up-to-date with the latest research and advancements in sensory science methodologies and techniques.
Ensuring compliance with ethical guidelines and regulations in sensory research.
Mentoring junior sensory scientists or team members.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) and a minimum of two to four (2-4) years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education/experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Regularly required to sit. Regularly required use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms to handle objects and operate tools, computer, and/or controls. Required to speak and hear. Occasionally required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Exposed to general office noise with computers printers and light traffic.
