Department of Neurology has a strong basic research program that aims to understand the molecular mechanisms of neurological diseases and develop new treatment strategies for these disorders. The neuroimmunology research aims to understand how central nervous system (CNS) and peripheral immune cells are involved in the CNS injury and recovery processes. We aim to develop pharmacological interventions that modulate immune function to improve functional recovery.
The Incumbent will independently work in a laboratory research setting related to stroke and brain injury research. Bachelor’s degree or relevant equivalent experience. Computer skills in online ordering and database maintenance required, as well as excellent verbal skills.
Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures. Prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment.
Essential functions of this position include handling and breeding rodents, basic laboratory techniques and experimentation, analytical skills, organization and management of laboratory supplies, generation of immunohistochemical samples, and operating histological equipment (microtome, cryostat), and general laboratory equipment.
The physical effort involves the ability to get around a university lab setting throughout the day, and occasional lifting of heavy objects (e.g., boxes of supplies or small laboratory equipment).
