Fuels and Energy Development Section works in pilot plant services and process development of new first of their kind processes.
Objectives of this Role:
Assist projects with technical task such as feedstock preparation, cleaning, installation of equipment, tubing, insulation, etc.
Monitor chemical/petroleum processes to collect data and samples.
Monitor chemical processes and support development of procedures.
Project equipment inventory and maintenance.
Assist with project buildups (install tubing, strut, insulation, heat trace, electrical (mostly DC and low AC), etc.) and maintenance (disassemble equipment, repair equipment, etc.).
Laboratory and pilot area organization of parts, equipment, chemicals, etc.
Support operations on shifts and potentially lead shifts.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
Daily maintenance of equipment/parts, inspect work areas and help keep them well organized and clean. Provide input for improved efficiency.
Waste disposal, sample distribution (log-in and deliver to locations throughout SwRI).
Support pilot and lab scale operations in documentation and execution of process objectives.
Review and approve project notebooks (ELNs). Conduct and report lab inspections.
Provide training and document training in technical areas.
Work with I&E to learn and execute electrical work to include instrument installation testing, calibration, and most importantly documentation in P&IDs or Electrical drawings.
Requirements:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
Shift work required.
2+ years: Related work experience.
Desire to learn department processes.
Must be able to follow all safety training and requirements.
A valid/clear driver's license is required.
Special Requirements:
Must be a U.S. person (i.e., U.S. citizen, non-U.S. citizen national, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) due to ITAR work in section.
