Job Summary

Murphy Oil Corporation is seeking a ROC (Remote-Operations Control) operator to join our growing team. The ROC is a 24-hour Remote Operations Center comprised of multidisciplinary Operations & Engineering teams focused on optimizing the performance & operation of our field assets. The ROC Operator reports to the ROC Team Lead. The ROC Operator will be responsible for providing remote expertise to the field operations execution team regarding the safe operation of wells, water assets, & compression. They will ensure the optimization of production while minimizing operation costs & conducting daily activities within the framework of Murphy's corporate policies, all while demonstrating safety as a top priority.

This position will work a 12-hour, 7/7 on/off shift consisting of both days & nights. This position will be vital in the day-to-day operations of Murphy's Central Remote Command Center located in our Houston office.

Responsibilities

The ROC operator is responsible for:

  • Safe and consistent, 12-hour shift operations of all Onshore central facilities and well assets, including downstream pressures.
  • Controls and monitors all facility activities and communicates / dispatches urgent matters as needed.
  • Main point of contact between field personnel, management, safety, environmental, first responders, and engineering; ensuring safe, uninterrupted, and optimized business operations.
  • Production performance metric monitoring & live production process optimization
  • Real-time monitoring & dispatch of appropriate responses to field alarms while effectively evaluating & analyzing the root cause. Will require both remote capabilities and coordination of field employees to achieve.
  • Coordinates responses for the Field Operations execution team, responding to inquiries, field support requirements, safety, and production upsets.
  • Analyzes, interprets, and validates production variance report (PVR) of field data including downtime coding, flare venting, and fluid inventories.
  • Maintains an intricate online production database.
  • Builds collaborative relationships and actively engages with internal stakeholders, including Production Accounting, Engineering, Marketing and HSSE, for the purpose of analyzing daily/weekly outputs against set metrics.
  • Priority based production model function and decision-making skills.

Qualifications/ Requirements


  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum 2 years' experience with basic onshore operational experience (i.e., Eagleford Shale, Marcellus Shale, Bakken, Anadarko, Powder River Basin, Montney, Kaybob, etc.)
  • Model and promote safe behaviors in all work environments in accordance with health and safety regulations, corporate policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Multi-tasking in a stop start priority manner, communication, reporting. Both read & write.
  • ROC operators will work predominantly days, to include night shifts rotationally with other ROC operation team members.
  • Field training & travel will be required during the month of hire. (May include field trips to Gulf Asset or Canada Asset - Passport preferable) As well as on a need be basis required for understanding, visibility, relationship building, and hands on training events.
  • Well-developed & proven computer skills, specifically with MS Office programs, MS Teams, SCADA, production analytics tools, and policy / safety operational handbooks.
  • Well-developed knowledge of production monitoring & troubleshooting guidelines for free flowing wells, multiple artificial lift methods, and central facility process equipment.
  • Collaborative team decision making and individual decision-making abilities during day-to-day activities.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

  • 4 years' experience with Cygnet, Canary, Excel, Spotfire / Power BI, & ProdView
  • Any post-secondary education/certification in an engineering technologist program
  • Maintains a strong, positive presence, and leads by example.
  • Exceptional communication & interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates organizational skills - ability to identify, plan, prioritize, & execute work objectives.
  • Excellent troubleshooting abilities & proactive decision making
  • Capable of working effectively in an open space work environment with multiple peers and stakeholders
  • Proven ability to make transparent, timely and accurate decisions.
  • Analyzes and prioritizes situations to identify and solve problems efficiently.

  • Competently communicates (verbal & written) with others and demonstrates strong listening skills.
  • Base knowledge of operational maintenance procedures / projects, engineering management, and upline analytical skills
  • Leadership skills and capabilities to usher support and buy-in from peers / field operations.
  • Diverse idea generation for supporting effective efficiency changes to increase productivity or manage time.

The individual is required to follow all applicable safety precautions. Work is performed almost entirely in a controlled (i.e., inside) environment and does not typically subject the incumbent to any hazardous/extreme elements; some positions may require regularly moving or transporting items weighing up to 25 lbs. around the office for various needs. The successful candidate must be able to complete all essential physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
