The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Dental Public Health provides oral health care for individuals from infancy through adolescence, and promotes the prevention of oral disease. The Public Health discipline is a dynamic unit that offers educational programs including community rotations, affiliation with the state's dental public health residency program, and an Oral Epidemiology PhD program.
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Adams School of Dentistry seeks an accomplished and dedicated leader to serve as Chair, Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Dental Public Health. The Department is an internationally recognized group of oral health professionals that combine strong dental, pediatric dentistry advanced dental education program and master's degree programs, community service and outreach, faculty practice and research components.
The ideal candidate is an outstanding leader that will direct a high-performing and passionate department in our education, patient care, community service and research missions. The successful candidate will be eligible to participate in the intramural pediatric dentistry Dental Faculty Practice. The successful candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills; possess skills in teaching and mentoring students and faculty; a strong history of clinical excellence; a strong history and continued interest in research and productive scholarship and a minimum of five years of leadership and/or administrative supervisory experience. In addition to a primary faculty appointment in either a full-time fixed-term track or tenure/tenure track position, the selected candidate will hold a secondary, at will administrative assignment as Department Chair reporting to the Dean. Faculty rank and track will be determined once the top candidate is identified.
Minimum qualifications include Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS), Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD), or equivalent dental degree, and at least five years of academic experience in teaching and mentoring or equivalent required. American Board of Pediatric Dentistry certification or equivalent is required. Eligibility for dental licensure in NC or NC Instructor's License, and evidence of scholarship to qualify for an appointment at the associate or full professor level. Rank and salary will be commensurate with education, experience and academic accomplishments.
Advanced training in public health or experience working in community settings is preferred along with experience with CODA accreditation.
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
