Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Director of the Center for Craft Food and Beverage (Tenure Track)This is a 12 month position.The Department of Chemistry at Hartwick College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment in the Department of Chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor starting in July 2025. This faculty member will also direct Hartwick's Center for Craft Food and Beverage. We seek candidates with expertise in Food Science, Analytical Chemistry, or a closely related field, with preference given to those with food chemistry experience. Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in Food Science or Analytical Chemistry. Specific teaching assignments will include Analytical Chemistry, Instrumental Chemistry, Food Chemistry. Teaching load will average 12 semester credit hours, and all faculty members teach during the College's distinctive four-week January Term. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute 2/5 of their time to direct the Beverage and Baking Innovation Labs, which make-up the Hartwick College Center for Craft Food and Beverage. This Center, unique for a 4-year liberal arts college, provides research, testing and support for the greater small grains, brewing, distilling, and baking industries and includes a fee-for-service laboratory focused on raw grain quality and brewing science. The laboratories, which include advanced analytical instrumentation, serve a diverse client base and provide quality testing and research services. The candidate will lead operations of the labs, mentor the technical staff and students, and foster an environment that encourages innovation and collaboration. This role also presents opportunities to leverage the lab's resources for research in food science and food chemistry, benefiting both the candidate's scholarly pursuits and the broader academic and professional community.The candidate will be expected to contribute ⅗ of their time (averaging 12 semester credit hours) to the teaching, research, and service missions of the College.
