Job Description:

Are you a strategic HR Manager or Generalist who would enjoy bringing your expertise to a variety of organizations? Do you thrive on building relationships and providing hands-on support to solve problems and meet the needs of clients? Do you have experience with a variety of industries and organization sizes, including non-profit, working with unions, and more? As a full-time HR Consultant, your assignments may consist of either short-term projects or longer engagements providing on-going HR support, with the full Archbright HR and Legal team as a resource to you.

The Senior HR Consultant provides senior-level expertise to HR Consulting projects and other engagements on a wide variety of Human Resources topics. Work may include Operational or Strategic HR Consulting, as well as providing back-up to other services such as the HR Hotline, Handbook Review, Archbright University class facilitation, investigations and support to compensation services. May also advise and mentor HR Associates.  Ideal candidates will have a minimum of 10 years of HR Generalist experience and have a strong understanding of Federal employment law, as well as Washington, Oregon, California, and/or other states’ employment laws.

This position involves a combination of on-site and remote work for Archbright members, with occasional travel expected.  In-person requirements may range from 10-100%, depending on member needs. In addition, attendance at in-person internal Archbright events is required, typically ranging from 4-6 days per year.

The Senior HR Consultant provides senior-level expertise to HR Consulting projects and other engagements on a wide variety of Human Resources topics. Work may include Operational or Strategic HR Consulting, as well as providing back-up to other services such as the HR Hotline, Handbook Review, Archbright University class facilitation, investigations and support to compensation services. May also advise and mentor HR Associates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Operational HR engagements which may include acting as the member’s HR Generalist or leader. Evaluate the needs of the organization and provide advice as appropriate. Perform a variety of work that may include employee relations, leave management, recruiting strategy and execution, operational HR improvement, HRIS evaluation, HR vendor evaluation, and other duties. 

  • Strategic HR engagements which may include presenting Employee Engagement Survey results, conflict resolution, and other services.

  • Provide support and mentoring to HR Associates on Operational HR or other consulting assignments.

  • Provide back-up to the HR hotline and HR chat as assigned.

  • Provide back-up for investigations, as needed.

  • Provide back-up to reviewing HR handbooks as assigned.

  • Provide back up to facilitating Archbright University classes as assigned.

  • Utilizes Archbright’s best practices for all services and contributes to the continuous improvement and documentation of best practices.

  • Actively inform members of other Archbright services that would add solve problems or add value.

  • Create resources as requested by the Content Team.

  • Stay abreast of legal/government activities and HR trends regarding employment law and employee relations matters.   

  • Actively participate in Archbright meetings, industry seminars, and continuing education courses

Essential Qualifications for the Role: 


  • Strong understanding of Federal employment law, as well as Washington, Oregon, California, and/or other states’ employment laws.

  • Experience working with all levels of employees, including advising management and executive teams.  

  • Experience with a variety of industries and organization sizes and types, including non-profit.

  • Proven ability to present a knowledgeable, confident, friendly, and professional manner over the telephone, in email, and in-person with members. 

  • Ability to facilitate meetings and present to senior leaders.

  • Expertise and judgment sufficient to identify when a question or issue requires legal advice.

  • Dedication to quality and accuracy, as well as timely service to members. 

  • Ability to clearly write and articulate a host of complex HR and business-related topics.  

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize. 

  • Ability to achieve utilization goals set by Archbright.

Education and Experience: 


  • Required:


  • Minimum of 10 years of exempt-level Human Resources experience.  

  • Minimum of 3 years management experience at a senior or executive level, providing strategic HR as a member of the leadership or executive team.

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  


  • Preferred:


  • Labor Relations experience preferred

  • Experience delivering HR services in a consulting environment or HR account management is a plus 

  • Training or facilitation skills preferred

Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations:


  • Current PHR or SPHR and/or SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification, or the ability to obtain certification within 6 months

Technical Skills:


  • Required: Excellent MS Office Suite experience, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel

The full compensation range for this position is $91,297- $136,945. The hiring range for this position is $102,704 - $125,527 annually.
