Purpose:
This strategic position is responsible for developing a comprehensive production plan that enables timely fulfilment of customer orders. The Senior Manager, Planning and Material Scheduling will direct the day-to-day responsibilities of the Planning team, with responsibility to create a schedule that meets and exceeds the business’ financial requirements. This leader will interface with the Operations Managers and Procurement to understand key constraints such as lead time, capacity, etc. and identify needs to drive improvement in lead time, needs to expand capacity, or similar and communicate these gaps to Leadership. The Senior Manager, Planning & Material Scheduling also interfaces with Sales, Program Management, and Product Management to incorporate future demand forecast into the production plan. An expert level of material planning, manufacturing process, and ERP knowledge is required and a knowledge of procurement is preferred.
Responsibilities:
Day-to-day leadership of the Planning team. Coach, train, and develop the Planners as appropriate with: Production work order scheduling and release, expediting, providing lead time for quotes, recovering from material supply delays, and reporting any impact from these or other unforeseen conditions.
Work closely with Operations Leadership, Site Leadership, Finance, and Executive Leadership to understand the business requirements, goals, and strategic direction. Review order backlog, on-hand inventory (including WIP inventory), lead time, and capacity then prepare an Operations build plan that aligns with the strategic direction and meets or exceeds requirements.
Review and include fixed order demand in medium- and long-term planning. Work with Sales and Purchasing to confirm appropriate lead time considerations to ensure appropriate incoming material to fulfill orders. Act as a focal point between Sales, Product Management, and Operations to ensure configured system orders are scheduled to meet customer demand, considering production capacity.
Responsible for the creation and continuous update of the Master Production Schedule (MPS) that satisfies anticipated short-order customer demand, maintains stability in terms of material and capacity requirements, and minimizes Raw and Finished Goods inventory levels. The MPS enhances the required production build for the monthly/annual revenue plan as well as establishing the projected forecast demand in the ERP system to ensure sufficient inventory to meet production requirements.
Interface with Product Management, Engineering, Procurement, and Planning to ensure smooth transition of new products, prototypes, and components into the forecast and ultimately the production build plan. Additionally, participate in End-of-Life product transitions to recommend correct inventory disposition(s)
Provide overall expertise and tactical leadership within all of these processes related to forecast and the Production Scheduling process. Evaluate opportunities to improve this process and further optimize Comtech’s business processes related to forecasting, planning/scheduling, and procurement (SIOP or Integrated Business Planning).
Evaluate ongoing impact of “performance to forecast” on inventory levels for the current month and implement any appropriate changes to the forecast and build plan. Assess the impact to capacity, inventory levels, and purchase orders that result from any proposed major changes

Strong communication, leadership, and influencing skills.
Requirements:
Ten (10) years Master Scheduling, advanced planning, or Planning Management experience.
Expert-level ERP skills. Previous experience with Epicor planning software (Manage 2000) preferred, Deltek planning software (Costpoint) experience a plus.
Broad based knowledge of supply/demand process. Experience with multiple-level Bill of Materials, machining/plating processes, and circuit card assembly processes preferred.
APICS certification preferred.
