Position Summary:

The Loan Specialist is a leading sales position which is primarily responsible for originating quality loan volume for the lender. This position is also responsible for sourcing and submitting loans, by both internal leads and external efforts, that qualify under the SBA 7a, SBA SLA, SBA Express, and SBA 504 program. Additionally, this position will also provide all aspects of loan origination, including working with credit and closing to ensure timely closing of the loan request.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:

Develop contacts and leads to generate Small Business Administration (SBA) loan financing for business customers by spending more than 80% of time on sales activities and functions from both inside leads and developing relationships with outside referral sources with the goal to obtain quality loan requests from them.
Contribute to the growth of the loan portfolio by originating applications for SBA loans.
Continually foster lender's reputation in the marketplace and expand circles of influence to bring more quality loans to lender.
Build, develop, and maintain profitable finance lending relationships with new and existing referral sources.
Generate leads through cold calling and existing referral contacts to develop SBA lending opportunities.
Consult with customers and prospects to understand their current business practices and identify their financial goals and needs.
Develop and promote lender's products and services to best meet the business needs of the customer and the lender.
Gather, analyze and discuss credit and financial information for determination of credit quality and appropriateness of SBA financing.
Develop SBA loan packages, gather pertinent financial information, and submit to SBA processing center.
Responsible for all facets of the loan to include delivering, upon approval, commitment letter and review of loan program details, and closing.
Proactively strengthen customer relationships by providing quality advice during the loan process.
Work in partnership with credit, administration, and closing to process and close quality SBA loans in an as expedient manner as possible.
Convey loan declines to borrowers as needed in a professional and courteous manner.
Follow all of lender's credit policy and procedures guidelines.
Maintain a work area which ensures the safety and confidentiality of all customer records and transactions.
Understand and comply with Bank Secrecy Act and Anti-Money Laundering Policies and Procedures.

Represent Community Bank & Trust - West Georgia in the community and at community events.
Perform all other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

An undergraduate degree in business, finance, or a related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience.


A minimum of 3 years related experience in commercial loan sales, relationship banking, or other job-related experience.
A minimum of 2 years related experience in SBA lending.
Knowledge of the government guaranty loan programs (SBA 7a, 504, SLA, and Express), including changes to the programs implemented by the governing agency.
Strong working knowledge of credit and underwriting analysis.
Relationship management, business development and sales skills.
Problem solving and negotiation skills with ability to balance client needs with the best interests of the lender.
Ability to analyze and approve leases, purchase contracts, trust documents, and other applicable paperwork.
Ability to work effectively in a team fostered, multi-tasking environment.
Ability to read and interpret written information, recall written and oral instructions provided by others, edit documents for accuracy, grammar and spelling, write clearly and informatively and communicate information with clarity, tact and diplomacy.
Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite and banking/loan software programs and platforms.
