The Certified Ophthalmic Assistant is responsible for providing assistance to Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, and clinical staff with direct and indirect patient care, ensuring smooth work and patient flow within the department.
Primary Responsibilities:
Obtain initial patient assessment by recording pertinent medical history and charting procedures for medical records.
Perform and record visual acuities, color vision, stereopsis test, auto refractometer readings, refraction, intraocular pressure, and other testing as directed by the physician.
Coordinate physician activities and facilitate patient flow in the office.
Utilize AIDET to greet patients, handle questions during visits, triage phone calls, and schedule appointments.
Administer ocular medications under physician direction.
Assist with treatments and minor surgical procedures as needed under physician direction.
Maintain accurate and reliable medical records.
Complete patient billing and track referrals.
Work as a team member within the Ophthalmology department and with all other Optum departments.
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required. Evidence of continuing education in specialty field.
COA certification or ability to obtain within 18 months of hire.
Must obtain BLS certification within 60 days of hire.
Must be eligible for Washington State Medical Assistant (MA-R) registration.
One year of experience in an eye care setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in multiple subspecialties within Ophthalmology.
Knowledge of the refraction process.
