Job Description:

As the Legislative Services Section Manager, you will be responsible for working with the General Manager and management to strategize, advance and implement Metropolitan's legislative efforts. You will manage a team of government relations representatives that are responsible for developing strong working relationships and building coalitions with business, community, education, and environmental stakeholders to understand and support Metropolitan programs, policies and initiatives. This will include: direct advocacy of Metropolitan's policy positions to elected officials and their staff at the federal, state, and local levels; managing district-wide review of federal and state legislation for their impacts on Metropolitan; serving as a liaison between Metropolitan headquarters staff and legislative offices in Sacramento and Washington D.C; planning and effectively managing budgets and contracts for legislative activities and sponsorships; and promoting and protecting of Metropolitan short- and long-term legislative, regulatory and policy objectives.

Work Schedule: 9/80, Monday through Friday with every other Friday off

Hybrid: Metropolitan’s current practice in this position is a hybrid work schedule. This typically includes two days a week in person and the other days remote. This is subject to change dependent on organizational needs. In addition, a telework policy is scheduled for negotiations and once completed and implemented, will provide final direction on the hybrid schedule.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and fourteen years of increasingly responsible relevant experience, of which six years must have been in a management or supervisory position; or an advanced degree from an accredited college or university and twelve years of increasingly responsible relevant experience, of which six years must have been in a management or supervisory position.

Increasingly Responsible Relevant Experience is defined as: work experience related to legislation or public affairs

License(s): Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive in the course of your employment.
