Job Description:

Micro/Nano Fabrication Lithography Specialist

US-NJ-Princeton

Job ID: 2024-20279
Type: Full-Time
# of Openings: 1
Category: Research and Laboratory

Overview

The Princeton Materials Institute (PMI) at Princeton University invites qualified candidates to apply as a Research Specialist within the Micro and Nano Fabrication Center (MNFC) with a focus on all lithography processes including electron beam lithography and photolithography.

The MNFC is Princeton's central shared-use fabrication facility with over 15,000 sq ft. of clean room space, housing a large complement of tools dedicated to thin film deposition, photolithography, e-beam lithography, etching, packaging, and metrology. Together with the other PMI core facility, the Imaging & Analysis Center (IAC), the MNFC enables and supports a wide range of cutting-edge research at Princeton and with researchers from other academic institutions and companies in the fields of electronics, quantum computing, physics, material science, chemistry, photonics, and biochemical & mechanical engineering. The MNFC is currently positioned for an exciting period of growth, having relocated in 2017 into a larger new facility on the beautiful and historic Princeton University campus. Princeton is a vibrant and tech-focused historic town still with a small town feel in the heart of NJ, close to NYC/Philadelphia (each easily accessible by train), but with plenty of natural wide-open spaces nearby to enjoy as well.

We are looking for an energetic and motivated team player with creativity, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and capable of solving demanding technical and research problems. The successful candidate will participate in a multidisciplinary research and education environment mentoring and training student researchers and industrial users in all aspects of both electron beam and photolithography processes and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee, maintain, and troubleshoot two electron beam lithography systems, developing processes for switching between the two systems.
  • Be responsible for liaising with service engineers for routine maintenance, service calls, and upgrades to hardware and software.
  • Develop and maintain process development protocols and electron beam optimization software.
  • Oversee, maintain, troubleshoot, and train users on:
    • Contact lithography tools, direct-write and mask writing photolithography tools, spin coaters, and develop tools.
    • Two-photon photopolymerization system for micro-3D printing.
    • PDMS soft lithography toolset including developing / teaching short courses.
  • Training new MNFC users (internal and external) and supporting existing tool users:
    • Advising on process parameters
    • Performing process development for baseline processes and performing process and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Support the daily operation of MNFC and assist with laboratory incidents.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Essential
  • Masters Degree (PhD preferred) in physics, chemistry, engineering, or a related field
  • 7+ years’ relevant work experience in clean room environments
  • Deep working knowledge of micro/nano process/tool characterization, optimization, and maintenance
  • Experience in electron beam lithography equipment and their associated processes
  • Ability to work in a cleanroom laboratory with compressed gases, acids, solvents, and other chemicals
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs.

Preferred

  • PhD. in physics, chemistry, engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Experience in semiconductor/photonics industry and/or user facility where industrial problems are addressed.
  • Hands-on experience with photo or electron beam lithography in patterning 2D materials.
  • Experience with GenISys BEAMER and TRACER software
