The scholar will receive training in areas related to their specific project and will also be encouraged to seek out relevant collaborators within and outside the institution with the help of Dr. Hill. The successful applicant will work on at least one project and will have expertise and demonstrated interest in neuroscience, kidney biology, cardiovascular function, and/or physiology. Dr. Hill aims to provide rigorous hands-on training in project design, securing independent funding through grant and fellowship applications, delivering effective research presentations, forging collaborations, writing and publishing manuscripts, and other skills necessary for the applicant to one day run their own independent research group.
In addition to duties related to their independent research, the successful applicant will be expected to apply for independent funding to support their research, to assist Dr. Hill in applying for independent funding related to the project, and to regularly present and communicate their results to Dr. Hill and the laboratory. Additionally, the candidate will receive regular career mentoring and guidance from Dr. Hill, and it will be expected that the independent research of the candidate be prepared for publication in one or more peer-reviewed scientific articles in collaboration with Dr. Hill. Most projects in the lab involve significant mouse work. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background in rodent behavior, optogenetics, single cell transcriptomics, rodent survival surgeries, AAV work, neuroscience techniques, and/or in vivo imaging.
Ability to communicate effectively, in both written and oral formats.
Demonstrated independence in preparing and delivering quality oral presentations and manuscripts.
High level of self-motivation and integrity.
Demonstrated track record of completing independent research in one or more of the required Experience areas.
