NOTICE OF JOB OPENING
Otsego County Soil and Water Conservation District is accepting applications for the position of
CONSERVATION DISTRICT TECHNICIAN.
The successful applicant will perform a variety of
technical duties related to the establishment of land and water conservation practices on public and private
properties. Experience or college education in agronomy, forestry, or conservation-related projects is required.
Pay range is $45,000-$55,000 plus benefits.
The Conservation District Technician supports the implementation of conservation practices and programs to protect and enhance natural resources. This position involves working directly with landowners, farmers, and community members to assess environmental concerns and provide technical assistance for soil, water, and habitat management. Responsibilities include conducting field evaluations, developing conservation plans, and assisting with the design and installation of best management practices (BMPs).
The technician monitors project compliance, collects environmental data, and prepares reports. They also coordinate workshops, outreach events, and educational programs to promote sustainable land use. This role requires strong communication and organizational skills, the ability to interpret technical guidelines, and proficiency in GIS and other mapping tools.
Candidates should have a degree in natural resource management, environmental science, or a related field, with experience in conservation or agriculture preferred. A commitment to environmental stewardship and problem-solving is essential.
