Department Information



Indiana University is seeking candidates for the Executive Director of Web and Digital Strategy position for Indiana University. This is an exciting opportunity for a collaborative, forward-thinking leader to shape the future of web and digital strategy for Indiana University (IU).



Job Summary



Department Specific Responsibilities


  • Provides leadership and mentorship for the web strategy and CRM teams.

  • Serves as a member of the Marketing senior leadership team and as a member of the Vice President of University of Communications and Marketing cabinet.

  • Plays a pivotal role in steering our web and digital vision serving as a leader of the university's Digital Strategy Initiative (DSI).

  • Oversees the planning, design, execution, and maintenance of iu.edu and other centrally managed sites, in collaboration with UITS, as well as key website projects deemed institutional priorities.

  • Implements strategies to continuously optimize website performance, user experience, and CTA conversation rates.

  • Collaborates with senior leadership to develop plans, incorporate inputs, and integrate digital initiatives into the broader business strategy of the university.

  • Works collaboratively in cross-functional teams to develop and execute scalable enterprise web and digital solutions

General Responsibilities


  • Directs overall operations and strategy for the digital marketing function by providing oversight and direction within a large multi-faceted department or multiple departments.

  • Hires, trains, evaluates, coaches, assigns work, sets goals and objectives, determines staffing needs, sets strategic priorities, and directs the work of people leaders within digital marketing.

  • Manages relationships with various internal and external stakeholders; determines digital marketing needs, projects, and programs to align with objectives and goals and coaches people leaders on processes such as the development of communications timelines related to such initiatives.

  • Directs and manages the budget for digital marketing initiatives, including expenditures, revenue projections, program costs, and cost containment.

  • Responds to escalated and highly complex inquiries and requests and explains policies, procedures, and context of digital marketing.

  • Monitors industry trends and best practices and implements strategic process and policy changes to optimize operations and progress toward objectives.

  • Presents digital marketing outcomes to university leadership.

EDUCATION



Required



  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, business administration, marketing, information systems or related field

WORK EXPERIENCE



Required



  • 5 years in relevant field

  • 3 years of management experience in relevant field


Preferred



  • 10 years of progressively responsible experience in a complex, decentralized organization

  • 5 years of management experience in a relevant field

  • Experience with web content management systems and basic HTML/CSS/Javascript coding

  • Ability to leverage data and insights to inform recommendations and drive results using Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Google Search Console, and SiteImprove (or similar web health platform)

  • Demonstrated ability to create and successfully implement large scale web and digital projects involving multiple stakeholders in a high-paced environment

  • Familiarity creating personalized and customized digital communications in Salesforce or an alternative CRM system

  • Ability to lead through influence, partnership, and motivating teams to achieve high performance and results

  • Strong executive presence

  • Ability to think strategically, problem-solve and execute analytics-driven initiatives

  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with internal and external partners




Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This position is eligible to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.



Advertised Salary



$175,000 - $185,000 per year based on education and experience.
