We have an exciting opportunity open for a Senior Director of HR Operations, (Benefits, Payroll & HRIS) based in either Little Rock, AR, Fayetteville, AR or Fort Smith, AR.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Human Resources will play a critical role in overseeing the company's benefits programs, including health and wellness, retirement plans, and employee perks. Reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources, this role will lead benefits strategy, administration, and compliance, ensuring our offerings meet the needs of employees while aligning with the organization's goals. The Director will also support other HR functions, with a strong focus on benefits management as the primary responsibility.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Employee Health and Welfare Benefits
• Lead the design, implementation, and management of comprehensive employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, wellness initiatives, and voluntary benefits.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of existing benefits offerings and recommend enhancements to align with industry trends and employee needs.
• Partner with benefits vendors and brokers to negotiate plan offerings, ensuring optimal value and cost-effectiveness.
• Oversee annual benefits enrollment processes, including employee communications, system updates, and compliance checks.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to benefits administration, including ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ACA, and HIPAA.
• Collaborate with the Vice President of Human Resources to implement HR strategies that support organizational goals, with a primary focus on benefits strategy.
• Lead benefits communication efforts, including the creation of educational materials, presentations, and informational sessions for employees.
• Gather feedback on benefits programs, evaluate best practices, and use insights to make data-driven decisions on program enhancements.
• Partner with the HR team to develop and promote wellness initiatives that support employee health and well-being.
Payroll and Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS):
• Lead payroll process/programs.
• Manage payroll vendor partnerships and evaluate performance of vendor/tool
• Oversee the implementation of process, procedures and internal controls that ensure, accurate, timely and efficient payroll processing.
• Manage the HRIS system and processes including the development of HRIS functionality, ensuring accurate employee data management and efficient processing of HR-related transactions.
• Work with the IT team to integrate relevant data with other HR and payroll systems, streamlining workflows and reporting capabilities.
• Assist with the evaluation and implementation of HR software including, ATS, LMS, Performance Management, and other software solutions for the HR function.
• Utilize HRIS analytics to provide insights on HR metrics and performance.
Compliance and Risk Management:
• Ensure all benefits programs comply with applicable laws and regulations, conducting regular audits and updates as needed.
• Maintain thorough knowledge of benefits-related legal requirements and best practices, advising leadership on necessary changes.
• Assist in developing strategies to manage benefits-related risks and ensure compliance across all states where the company operates.
• Provide oversight for DOT Drug and Alcohol Program.
• Provide oversight for AAP, EEO1 and other required reporting.
• Assist in developing and updating HR policies.
Budget Management:
• Develop and manage departmental budget as well as the benefits budget, ensuring alignment with company financial objectives while optimizing value for employees.
• Track benefits expenditures and provide regular reporting to senior leadership, highlighting cost trends and areas for improvement.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 5 years specializing in benefits administration.
• Experience managing benefits for a mid-sized organization (1,000+ employees) preferred.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS platforms (e.g., Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, ADP).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
• In-depth knowledge of benefits administration, including health and wellness programs, retirement plans, and voluntary benefits.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex benefits information.
• Proficiency in HRIS and benefits management systems, with experience in system integrations and data analytics.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Comprehensive understanding of federal and state regulations related to benefits, including ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ACA, and HIPAA.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
• Skilled in knowledge and understanding of compliance requirements.
