Boeing seeks a Senior Project Engineer to join our team in Albuquerque, New Mexico that supports advanced concepts development; modeling and simulation of complex systems; design, integration, and test. Knowledge and experience is needed in infrared/electro-optical (IR/EO), visible, ultraviolet (UV), photonics, fiber, high energy laser, and optics technology (e.g., focal plane arrays, cryogenic cooling, optical design, fiber-optics, lasers, detectors, pointing systems, telescopes, optical components, interferometry, high power sources and amplifiers, target recognition, scanning and staring sensors, high band width atmospheric compensation, optical communications, optical measurement systems, signal processing, integrated optics, laser radar, opto-mechanics, imaging and projection optics, and diffractive and nonlinear optics). This position will work with extremely talented, high performing, multi-disciplined engineering teams on start-of-the-art adaptive optics and optical imaging systems. The person selected for this position will, in the future, serve as the chief engineer for developmental programs.
Position Responsibilities:
Lead team comprised of multiple skill areas, which may include internal and external resources and customers.
Develop system architectures to satisfy research and development, and ongoing and new projects.
Establish new and follow-on concepts to support research objectives.
Define and conduct tests to validate performance of designs to requirements.
Work with suppliers and partners to ensure compliance to requirements.
Coordinate with customer to define key requirements and project objectives.
Join crew to test and validate designs of complex systems.
This position is expected to be fully onsite at our Albuquerque LEOS site and on Kirtland AFB.
This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
Ability to obtain a Top Secret Clearance
10+ experience with optical applications including imaging, illumination, radiometry and photometry, physical and geometric optics and polarization
E xperience in all stages of development including systems engineering, system & subsystems design and development, system integration, modeling and simulation, and test/verification
7+ years of experience working with adaptive optics systems.
7+ years of experience designing and integrating optical systems.
Typical Education & Experience:
Lead (level 5): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Principal (level 6): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 20 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+15 years' related work experience, Master+18 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
