The Enterprise Data Architect is responsible for building and managing Colonial’s data strategy and architecture. This role designs, implements and maintains the technical systems that store, process and analyze our critical data. This is a crucial role for designing and managing Colonial’s enterprise data management frameworks, interpreting business requirements into technical requirements, and collaborating with various stakeholders to optimize data utilization.
This is a new role for Colonial with a critical opportunity to help us define data model designs, database development standards, consolidation of our data warehouses and ensure we build strategies to securely scale our data analytics systems.
JOB EXPECTATIONS/DUTIES
Key Responsibilities:
Technology, Data Architecture & Strategy:
Define and implement the enterprise data architecture standardizing on core platforms (specifically MS Fabric and Azure data tools).
Develop data governance policies and best practices for data management and analytics.
Define and support the development of data observability and data quality mechanisms to improve data platform reliability and enhance business trust.
Data Integration & ETL:
Manage data integration workflows using Cloud based ETL tools and integration tools ensuring seamless data flow between different systems.
Oversee the design and implementation of ETL/ELT processes to ingest, transform, and store data from diverse sources.
Analytics & Reporting:
Oversee the development of reporting dashboards and data visualizations using Power BI to support data-driven decision-making.
Implement self-service analytics capabilities for business users.
Ensure data security and compliance
Define a data security and compliance model with respect to applicable regulations, including access restrictions, encryption, and privacy laws.
Ensure that the organization’s data infrastructure is designed and maintained with security best practices in mind, minimizing the risk of unauthorized access and data leaks.
Oversee cloud-based data solutions, with a focus on Microsoft Fabric’s capabilities for data storage and analytics.
Optimize costs related to data storage and processing.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Management:
Work closely with cross-functional teams including IT, business, and analytics teams to deliver data-driven solutions.
Engage with external vendors and technology partners to assess new technologies and solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field
Master’s degree or certifications in cloud data platforms, data analytics, or similar is a plus
Experience:
7-10 years of experience in data management, data analytics, and business intelligence, including 3 to 5+ years of specialized experience in a leadership or senior role related to data architecture
Experience directly, or indirectly, leading small Data & Analytics teams a plus
Experience in data modeling, data warehousing, and cloud data architecture
Expertise in building scalable data warehouses and supporting advanced analytics
Strong proficiency in data integration and ETL workflows
Experience managing cloud based data solutions for at least two years
Experience delivering projects using Agile methodologies a plus
Technical Skills:
Proven Experience architecting and developing with the following platforms and tools:
Data platforms: Microsoft Fabric SQL based data warehousing (or Azure Synapse or Snowflake)
ETL/ELT: Azure Data Factory or SQL Server Integration Services (or Boomi/Wherescape) etc.
Reporting: Strong PowerBI or Tableau etc.
Advanced knowledge of Power BI or similar tools for data visualization and self-service analytics
Knowledge of other data platforms on AWS, Azure, GCP, SQL programming, Python, or other relevant data tools is a plus
Experience using DevOps tools like Jira or Azure DevOps
Knowledge of machine learning concepts and tools will be plus
Soft Skills:
Strong leadership and project management skills
Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
Ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
