Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine was established in 2012 upon a robust foundation of collaboration between Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo's two teaching health systems - Ascension Borgess and Bronson Healthcare, which includes Bronson Children's Hospital.

Opportunity

The WMU Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine Division of Orthopaedic Surgery is seeking a board certified or board eligible Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon to join their experienced and collaborative team and with an additional option to serve as the Chief of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery for the appropriately qualified candidate. This position provides the opportunity to serve patients from across southwest Michigan in a hybrid community hospital and academic setting.

Responsibilities

This position will have inpatient and outpatient responsibilities within the pediatric orthopaedics service line at its two teaching health system locations, Ascension Borgess and Bronson Healthcare. There will be opportunities to further refine and expand the Pediatric Orthopaedic service line, develop acute care coverage for the pediatric patient, further develop the multidisciplinary outpatient clinic services for patients with neuromuscular diseases and syndromes, optimize the scoliosis care pathway, and further relationships with the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine. There are teaching and curriculum development opportunities in both medical student and resident education. Furthermore, there are resources to support both basic science and clinical research. There is an additional leadership opportunity for Division Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery for the interested and qualified candidate. This position reports to the chair of the Department of Surgical Sciences and is responsible for overseeing the academic mission within orthopaedic surgery, serving as medical director of the orthopaedic surgery clinic, supervising the orthopaedic surgery team members employed by the medical school, collaborating with the leadership at our partner hospitals, and leading the orthopaedic surgery community in Kalamazoo and the region. Qualifications

Must possess an MD or DO degree.

Completion of an ACGME-accredited Orthopaedic Surgery residency and ACGME or POSNA-accredited Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery fellowship program.

Must be eligible for licensure to practice medicine in the state of Michigan.

Must be board eligible or board certified.
