Reports To: Director of Educator Preparation Program

Core Responsibilities:
The Certification Officer part-time position (20 hours weekly) is responsible for advising educator candidates of certification and endorsement requirements, and advising and interpreting law, regulations, and policies set at the state and university levels. Position is also responsible for ensuring all appropriate certification requirements have been met by all candidates applying for teacher, educational staff associates, and administrator certificates. Additionally, this position is responsible for the planning, organization, and services provided by the Certification Office, including edTPA, multicultural verification, FBI background clearances, etc. as necessary.
Responsibilities:
Collects, manages, and analyzes data to determine compliance with policies and requirements of the University, the Educator Preparation Program, The Tennessee Department of Education, and accreditation bodies.
Completes certification documents, communicates certification information to all student teacher candidates, and monitors candidates’ required assessments for certification.
Access and interpret policies and procedures specific to the Certification portion of educator preparation programs.
Ensure all appropriate certification requirements have been met by all candidates applying for teacher certificates.
Planning and organizing training regarding Praxis and edTPa testing for candidates.
Review, monitor and interpret state licensing policies, rules, and federal regulations.
Attends state and College meetings regarding teacher certification requirement updates and acts as a resource for the Educator Preparation Program.
Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses required by the Director.
Contributes to the success of the Educator Preparation Program by performing all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
Master’s degree in Education or closely related field.
Demonstrated knowledge of computer database programs (Excel, Access, other)
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong organizational and administrative skills
Must be able to adapt to new and updated rules governing teacher preparation programs
Must be able to learn and adapt to new technologies quickly and efficiently
Ability and willingness to work with diverse populations
Interest, ability, and experience promoting cultural competency
Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal accessibility, of our students, faculty, staff and the public.
