Overview
As a student intern, you’ll participate in the inspection of all types of bridges locally or even across the United States on an infrequent basis. You’ll access each structure in a unique way including but not limited to ladders, drones, hydraulic lift equipment, climbing, or underwater diving inspection. This opportunity will make full use of your engineering education with a mix of field work, travel opportunities, and advancement of your technical skills. The student intern reports to the project manager.
Responsibilities
Conduct safety inspections of bridges and prepares associated written technical reports, electronic drawings, structural analysis, load ratings, and repair/retrofit design.
Assist inspections using various testing methods, mechanized access machinery, climbing or diving equipment, and drones or sonar scanning devices.
Collect measurements, use various methods to document structural conditions, take photographs, and complete other documentation while recording information on a tablet.
Mobilize to other offices/states as required to staff additional inspection teams.
Perform additional structural assessment-related duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications
Enrolled in an ABET accredited university working towards a Bachelor of Science degree.
Completed core civil engineering coursework and currently taking upper-level division coursework.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software.
This hybrid job operates between an office environment and a field environment and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones and copy machines. May require occasional exposure to work environments that may include inclement weather, heat, humidity, noise, hazard, atmospheric conditions, and bodies of water, depending on project requirements.
While performing the duties of this job, physical demands of the employee include frequent sitting, moving, standing, talking, hearing, and occasional balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling. This job may occasionally require operating a company vehicle, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 35 lbs.
