Overview
Sev1Tech is looking for a Software Architect for the Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Ordnance Information System (OIS) modernization effort to provide overarching technical expertise on a mission-critical program whose purpose is to develop, modernize, and enhance services for the NAVSUP OIS application.
The Software Architect will define application development platform requirements for the Next Gen Software Dev team and design and configure the API gateway solution using Scaled Agile methodologies and DevSecOps practices.
In this role, you will demonstrate your extensive knowledge in multiple development languages, software development best practices, system design, continuous integration, continuous delivery, automation tools, testing, tool integrations, and communication. You will utilize knowledge of container orchestration, cloud solutions, and services in a hybrid cloud environment. You will use your self-motivation to show initiative to identify, research, design, develop, and promote solutions that enhance the modern development environment.
Travel to customer site (Mechanicsburg, PA) will be required for Program Increment Planning sessions, 2 times per year. Additional travel may be required for meetings.
Primary Responsibilities:
The Software Architect primary responsibilities include:
Oversee and prioritize tasking for the architectural design, development, and implementation of the NAVSUP OIS application software engineering environment.
Work with OIS Executive Action Team (EAT) and assist in development of policies for standardizing systems, development tools, and security practices for the OIS application.
Provide expertise and guidance for the design, development, implementation, and sustainment of IT solutions that enhance overall system performance and availability.
Provide technical knowledge and analysis of high-level functional systems analysis, design, and integration advice on complex matters that require expert level knowledge of the subject matter for effective implementation.
Lead migration of legacy OIS application to containerized solutions such as Openshift, Kubernetes, EKS, Konvoy.
Develop enterprise applications and services using Java, Python, Angular/ReactJS, AWS services, Kafka, ELK, and other open source tools.
Play a key role in planning, executing, and establishing enterprise software architecture standards, communication, and collaboration strategies
Must have the ability to take a concept, derive technical requirements and be able to design and build complete end to end solutions in a fast-paced agile environment.
Conduct engineering system development tasks including system requirements analysis, system architecture and design, preliminary design, critical design, system integration, formal verification, and formal validation.
Produce technical documentation in support of engineering solutions that include, but are not limited to, architectural drawings, detailed design specifications, and thorough implementation instructions.
Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers to implement those fixes
Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies
Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks
Responsibilities
Must have DOD Secret level clearance to start; U.S. Citizen required only for Federal Clearance Requirement
Master’s or equivalent experience and 12+ years of prior relevant experience in software design and development using containerized and microservices based components.
Demonstrated expertise in software development, including requirements analysis and system architecture design
Extensive understanding and experience programming and designing software using Java, J2EE, Angular, React, Spring MVC/Boot, JQuery, JSF, JSP, MyBatis, Hibernate, IBM MQ, Kafka, ELK, PLSQL, Oracle, WebLogic, Tomcat and AWS cloud services
Experience with modern development software, tools, and methodologies; Jenkins, GitLab, Jira, Nexus, Maven, OpenShift, SonarQube, Fortify, Junit, Karma, Selenium, Cyprus, Docker, Artifactory
Experience with API Design and Management
Demonstrated experience designing and implementing complex IT solutions on a large Navy Program
Demonstrated experience designing and modernizing complex enterprise networks and legacy IT systems, including developing effective COOP/DR solutions
Excellent communication and written skills
Must be a self-starter, strong leader, and have the ability to work independently with little supervision.
Qualifications
Experience with NIST SP 800 series or ISO 27000 series documents for information security management and risk assessment
At least one nationally recognized vendor certification Cloud Technical, Business or TCO Accreditation Cloud Architect, DevOps or SysOps Associate or Professional Certification
Experience working in a Scaled Agile or Scrum of Scrum software development organizational structure
Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the Navy’s Afloat network variants and process for application deployment and updates on Navy Afloat networks
Knowledge of AWS Relational Database Services
Experience with Helm Charts
Experience with Performance Optimization and Scalability
