Mass General Brigham (MGB) is a world- wide recognized Health system providing exceptional patient care within Massachusetts, New England and the rest of the globe. Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital are also world leaders in research aimed at improving the health status of the citizens of the world. The Mass General Brigham Sports initiative launched in 2020 with the goal of creating a regional, national, and international hub for Sports Medicine and related Specialties. The Mass General Brigham Center for Sports Performance and Research (CSPaR) program is expanding within the MGB Sports Medicine initiative and is aimed at providing world-class training for the everyday athlete. The CSPaR service is a highly specialized team of clinicians aimed at providing coordinated and comprehensive training and care for the professional, masters, collegiate, high school, amateur, and recreational athlete.
The CSPaR Performance Specialist will serve as a key collaborator for the training and care of the athlete/client. The CSPaR Performance Specialist will work under the direct supervision of the Sr. Manger, CSPaR, and actively engage in the performance training of clients/athletes who visit CSPaR, as well as work with other specialists at the CSPaR to coordinate care.
Schedule: TBD - May include some early mornings, evenings and some Saturdays.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Client Care:
• Conducts sport specific physical performance screening
• Oversees conditioning plan and cares for client utilizing available resources in the area of fitness and conditioning using available exercise equipment within the Rehabilitation Services Department in Foxborough
• Educates client regarding appropriate exercise techniques and methods of training to improve or enhance physical performance in desired sport activity and/or prevent injury
• Perform fitness screening and personal training to school aged children through elders
• Perform fitness screening and personal training to persons of all athletic levels, amateur to professional
• Provides client(s) with 1:1 or group program development and oversight in desired sport or area of targeted improvement in physical performance
• Educates and advises client on the proper use of athletic, exercise and conditioning equipment
• Interprets, evaluates, and utilizes pertinent current research related to sports performance and injury prevention
• Collects, interprets, and reports sports science data.
Administrative Duties (Documentation/Communication):
• Communicates effectively with staff, peers, colleagues, clients, family members and coaches
• Collaborates with staff nutritionist in order to improve clients' general health, well-being and increase their stamina and/or alter their weight.
• Documents clients' program and progress
• Maintains up to date fitness screens and notes
• Maintains up to date client schedules and volume for billing processes.
• Plan and educate conditioning exercises prior to sports activity.
• Develop training programs and routines designed to improve athletic/sport activity performance
Educational/Research activities:
• Actively participates in department projects/events/activities
• Provides in-services to the Center as directed
• Serves as ambassador for Center to visitors (tours/observation of client care)
• Assists with quality assurance projects on team as directed
• Takes responsibility for continuing professional development education
