Job Summary
The office of the Vice President of Communications and Marketing is seeking a Director of Video Strategy and Production with demonstrated leadership and experience shaping and executing a robust video strategy informed by the university's content strategy and editorial storytelling. This role will lead the university's video team and shape the integration of video strategy and production into the university's core content strategy in support of university-wide marketing and branding efforts, organic social media, signature university events, storytelling, paid social media and other paid digital advertising efforts (among others).
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Develops a comprehensive video strategy to support the priorities for marketing and communications teams to collaborate closely with social media, marketing strategy, content, and storytelling teams to deploy video content effectively, gathering input to refine strategy.
Supervises the entire content production cycle, including scriptwriting, topic research, and equipment selection.
Manages and optimizes the workflow of both full-time and part-time videographers and video producers, efficiently.
Ensures successful delivery of video assets by on-staff production team that meets the specific project and platform needs while advancing strategic objectives.
Mentors and guides videographers and video producers to enhance the quality, consistency, efficiency, and effectiveness of video production.
Maintains an organized office operation by overseeing the maintenance and archiving of production files, tracking expenses and supplies, and providing necessary reports on production costs and inventories.
Researches, evaluates, and recommends the adoption of new technology to equip IU to strengthen its video operation, aligned to strategy.
Establishes metrics/benchmarks for measuring success of video projects and innovate and establish new, successful video formats to engage audiences effectively.
Assists in managing relationships with freelancers and vendors to ensure seamless collaboration and quality outcomes.
Directs and produces video content, while also assessing and optimizing its value and return on investment.
General Responsibilities
Directs overall operations and strategy for the marketing and communications function by providing oversight and direction within a large multi-faceted department or multiple departments.
Hires, trains, evaluates, coaches, assigns work, sets goals and objectives, determines staffing needs, sets strategic priorities, and directs the work of people leaders within communications.
Manages relationships with various internal and external stakeholders; determines communications needs, projects, and programs to align with objectives and goals and coaches people leaders on processes such as the development of communications timelines related to such initiatives.
Directs and manages the budget for communications initiatives, including expenditures, revenue projections, program costs, and cost containment.
Responds to escalated and highly complex inquiries and requests and explains policies, procedures, and context of communications.
Monitors industry trends and best practices and implements strategic process and policy changes to optimize operations and progress toward objectives.
Presents communications outcomes to university leadership.

Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English, public relations, or related field

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
