Job Description:
Cornhusker State Industries (CSI) is searching for a motivated leader to engage in building opportunity within our diverse production environment. The successful candidate oversees a CSI business unit directing the work of incarcerated workers. Must be customer focused and provide effective communication to all internal and external stakeholders.

Duties:
Develop a thorough understanding of processes for CSI business units to provide backup staff coverage for each operation. Provide coverage for other business units/NDCS institutions as needed. Schedule production to effectively and efficiently coordinate materials and manpower availability with work orders. Plan, organize, assign, and direct inmate work activity. Hire, train and counsel inmate workers to meet established work performance standards and production requirements. Review inmate work performance to determine appropriate promotions, demotions or training needs. Determine raw materials required for work orders. Maintain inventory control. Assure quality throughout the production process. Monitor shop and equipment for maintenance and to maintain a safe work environment. Record payroll data, production orders, purchases, inventory and other relevant data. Perform security related duties to assure compliance with work policies and maintain accountability for workers, tools and chemicals. Deliver, install or repair furniture and products.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Experience in a skilled trade or manufacturing work similar to the production in the assigned shop OR graduation from a vocational technical school relevant to the production process employed. No felony or domestic abuse related convictions.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of general equipment and facility maintenance. Knowledge and experience sufficient to recognize, analyze, prioritize and perform preventative maintenance and repairs. Project management experience in a laundry or manufacturing environment. Class A or B CDL preferred.
Other: Valid driver's license required. Must obtain Class B CDL within 90 days of hire.* Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Corrections Training Program.

Knowledge, skills and abilities
Knowledge of: materials, machinery, and tools used in the shop; machinery maintenance; inventory control; safety; material movement and control; application processes; and quality control production methods employed in the shop; state purchasing procedures organizational structure and interrelationships; rules and regulations governing the conducts of inmates; general security and emergency procedures.
Ability to: communicate effectively; train inmates in the production process; prepared reports; keep records; demonstrate machine or tool process; maintain close control over inmates; meet production requirements and standards in a production setting involving multiple products and work stations; maintain clear and accurate records; plan and organize the production process of the shop; supervise items; maintain control of shop materials, machinery, and tool; control legal offenders; understand and enforce rules governing inmates; analyze product flow; plan, analyze, and organize shop operational need requirements; and maintain a safe and secure work environment.
