Job Description:
The DHHS Division of Public Health is seeking a Program Specialist (C73210) to improve access to healthcare for citizens living in rural Nebraska and other shortage areas in the state by helping these areas recruit and retain healthcare providers. Job Duties:
Provide state and territory-wide coverage of primary health care issues and have relationships with primary care health delivery systems and programs state-wide.
Carry out cooperative agreement initiatives in federal grant.
Identify shortages within the state and interact with stakeholders regarding how shortage designations can aid their primary care workforce.
Attend, participate, and facilitate in virtual and in-person meetings and learning opportunities.
Work with healthcare executives and staff in varied settings, including hospitals, clinics, Federally Qualified Health Centers, and non-profit organizations.
Travel (may be alone or in groups via car or airplane) in and out of state for conferences and meetings related to primary care policy and workforce initiatives.
Identify areas of need in the primary care workforce and health disparities and develop training and educational opportunities for stakeholders within the state for participation and learning.
Work as a part of a team with other Health Program Managers to determine the best use of the State Office of Rural Health's programs.
Requirements/ Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree, or equivalent coursework/training, in public administration, social/behavioral sciences, healthcare, human services, or other program-related field. Professional experience working in a human/social service or health care agency with responsibility for planning or evaluation services, programs, or operational policies and practices may substitute instead of the educational requirement.
Other: Valid Driver's License
Core Hours: 8:00 am to 5:00 PM with some flexibility
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to travel in and out of state for this position is required. Mandatory attendance at a minimum of 2 work-related conferences per year as well as other in-state and/or out-of-state work-related meetings and site visits as necessary. Minimum travel time is approximately three weeks per year.
