Position Summary:

Flexible work arrangements, including remote/hybrid work locations, are an integral part of the School of Medicine's Working Forward initiative. This position is expected to be hybrid with at least 2-3 days per week on campus. Please note the designated work location is subject to change based on the unit's business needs.


The Business Officer 2 is responsible for performing activities in the Office of Graduate Education (OGE) Department for the School of Medicine. The primary purpose of this position is three-fold: 1) to manage day-to-day financial operations of the OGE including accounts supervision; 2) to manage grant spending and reporting for OGE programs, and 3) to manage the OGE budgeting process including assembly of budget, calculation, and recovery of funds from units that pay into the OGE, and analysis and reporting for OGE leadership. The individual in this position will liaise with the School of Medicine Finance and Business Operations (FBO) and with Human Resources on matters relating to finances and salaries. This position is expected to operate independently, making key decisions about OGE funds and business matters using their professional discretion, while communicating effectively with supervisors, OGE employees, UNC departments, and external stakeholders.


The Business Officer should possess a high degree of accuracy, effective communication, and collaboration skills since it will participate of decisions and communication with other departments and organizations that have a direct impact on the quality and integrity of the Office of Graduate Education. The ability to interpret and communicate policies and procedures will be essential when communicating to faculty, staff, and students. Business Officer must possess the ability to use professional judgement to resolve complex business problems, and the ability to be proactive and think strategically.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities related to teaching, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. In addition, the position minimums should satisfy any accreditation requirements in the specified area of instruction.


Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office products such as Excel and Word required.


Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Master's degree and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. Demonstrated experience with grants administration in a university setting. Familiarity with UNC systems including ConnectCarolina and lnfoporte. Management experience, organization skills and customer service experience preferred.
