Job Summary


Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Multi-Campus Programs, the Coordinator of Distance Education and Digital Accessibility collaborates with the Dean of Teaching Excellence and Academic Resources to ensure consistent instructional design in online courses across academic disciplines and serves as the College's lead on distance education-related committees. They implement theory and research processes and provide training specific to the design, development, and implementation of accessible learning and web published materials.



Job Duties


* Collaborate with the Dean of Teaching Excellence and Academic Resources to ensure consistent instructional design in online courses across academic disciplines.


* Implement theory and research processes to design, develop, and implement accessible learning materials and digital content that meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 levels A and AA and Section 508 Standards.


* Research, create, and maintain training for administrative staff, faculty, and support staff related to digital accessibility conformance standards.


* Train appropriate personnel college-wide in creating and remediating webpage content to conform to Section 508 Standards and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 levels A and AA and Section 508 Standards.


* Work collaboratively with faculty to transform instructional materials created for one format to another format i.e., adapt materials from face-to-face to e-learning. Design and revamp both new and established learning models as needed.


* Teach faculty to create accessible media to support learning (visual aids, infographics, interactive exercises, animation, job aids, etc.). Collaborate with the Center for Teaching and Learning team as appropriate to develop training materials to provide professional development opportunities for faculty.


* Train all new hires, to include administrative staff, faculty, and support staff, on current digital accessibility standards as well as in creating and maintaining digital content. Design instructional management systems as appropriate. Create educational podcasts, videos, and content as assigned.


* Guide new Internet and hybrid course proposals through the approval process, maintaining the Internet and hybrid course inventories and development manuals. Work with faculty and others to identify program-specific student learning outcomes to align content, activities, and assessments to the identified outcomes. Research new innovations in both learning design and education to provide professional development opportunities to faculty.


* Complete required annual processes to support the College's participation in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA). Track SACSCOC substantive change and compliance for alternative delivery and off-campus course offerings. Evaluate new eLearning materials.


* Work with all purchasing parties regarding procurement of resources (VPAT). Comply with TBR Guidelines to create and update the Accessible Instructional Materials and Technology (AIMT) database for Northeast State Community College.


* Complete other assignments as directed by supervision.



Minimum Qualifications


* Bachelor's degree in Education, Communications, Instructional Design, Educational Media, Educational Technology, or a related field from an accredited institution
* Two years' experience designing and developing technology-based instructional content across a broad range of disciplines; integrating graphic, text, and audio elements in multi-media learning materials
* Two years' experience developing accessible course-related materials for on-ground and online instruction that meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 levels A and AA and Section 508 Standards



Preferred Qualifications


* Master's degree in Education, Communications, Instructional Design, Educational Media, Educational Technology, or a related field from an accredited institution
* Two years' experience in higher education
* Conversational ability or fluency in a second language



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


* Technology Skills: MS Office suite; videoconferencing software; digital records management systems; general operating systems and data information systems
* Ability to proofread, edit, and produce effective written materials and presentations
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
