Senior Staff Assistant

Native American Program Coordinator

SUNY Potsdam

A primary focus of the coordinator will be on programming initiatives designed to increase the recruitment, retention, and academic, social success and graduation rate of Indigenous students. This includes maintaining close working relationships with Native communities across the State, particularly Akwesasne Mohawks.

Job Requirements & Essential Functions of Job: Development and delivery of programming initiatives designed to increase the recruitment, retention, and academic success of Indigenous students on our campus by forming collaboration with such departments as the Office of Admissions, Student Success Center, Careers, Campus Life and across all campus departments and maintaining close working relationships with Indigenous communities across the State, particularly Akwesasne Mohawks.

Required Qualifications: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required. The successful applicant must be able to work collaboratively with various campus constituents, possess facilitation and programming skills/experience, and must demonstrate a commitment to assist in building and sustaining a respectful, welcoming, inclusive, and supportive campus environment for underrepresented students and especially our Indigenous students.

We are seeking candidates who possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues and who have demonstrated a commitment to creating, fostering and sustaining an inclusive environment.

Preferred Qualifications: Professional experience working with Indigenous students. Master's degree in education, Counseling Psychology, Higher Education Administration, or related field, and at least three years' experience.
