Position Summary:
The primary responsibility of the Director-Health Systems-Medical Field (DHS) is the compliant communication and exchange of all clinical and value evidence that underscores Taiho’s portfolio of drug therapies. This exchange is with Key Decision Makers (KDMs) and key External Experts (KEEs) in the assigned accounts. These include top academic institutions, NCI/NCCN Centers of Excellence, Group Purchasing Organizations (GPO), Large Network Practices (LNP), Federal Government Health Care Systems, and key National Payer Organizations.
The DHS, a cross-portfolio role is responsible for ensuring the provision of product information in a timely fashion. This individualwill identify opportunities and gaps and provide timely information for product inclusion in the formulary and pathways. Leveraging real-world insights and validations provides input into the content for launched products and portfolios early in development.
Provides expertise that uniquely qualifies to support informed choices to the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee, formulary design, drug utilization controls, and the incorporation of drug therapies into best-practice clinical pathways.
Performance Objectives:
Deeply understand the unique medical needs of the assigned, accounts, and their clinical and patient outcomes goals.
Prioritize relationships with key medical decision-makers in healthcare systems (Top academics and LNPs), managed care organizations, payers, and government programs to facilitate appropriate discussions related to coverage policy, pathway inclusion, and patient identification algorithms; further developing medically driven mitigation strategies to remove barriers impacting patients’ access.
Define plans with near and long-term medical vision and direction for the assigned accounts and identify opportunities for exchange and collaboration to enhance patient outcomes.
Demonstrate proficiency and effectiveness in delivering clinical data and economic value propositions to a tiered roster of decision-making stakeholders across varying settings of the account
Map and articulate each assigned organization’s near- and long-term strategic vision for medical success and identify opportunities for collaboration that may enhance patient outcomes.
Foster the development and execution of medical plans (with MSLs) aligned with the broader organization and provide ongoing visibility of account plans to all relevant stakeholders.
Demonstrate field accountability and collaborate closely with regionally affiliated MSLs to align on shared medical goals.
Act as the lead medical point of contact for assigned account to create, prioritize, plan, and implement mutually beneficial, cross-portfolio initiatives that line up with unmet needs and Medical Affairs priorities...
In partnership with account managers (Market Access), the DHS will establish and nurture C-suite and senior stakeholder relationships throughout each assigned national account to better understand organizational needs while spotlighting actionable insights and opportunities for medical, quality, and/or health outcomes partnerships.
Collect and report actionable medical insights from KEE/KDM and validations needed for TOI portfolio development.
Identify geographic or local healthcare market opportunities (e.g., Oncology Care Model) that evolve systematically or arise by coincidence.
Monitors clinical pathway and guideline implementation and compendium, formulary status, etc.
Identify opportunities through analytics and use agile approaches to adapt medical field plans where required.
Facilitate implementation of Taiho HEOR and disease management initiatives; maintain research or other collaboration with payor KDMs and value centric KEEs as needed.
Deliver expert support, mentorship, and/or training to MSLs and internal medical affairs personnel in National Managed Markets, Integrated Health Networks (IHNs), GPOs, and LNPs programs as needed.
Attend select scientific meetings and professional conferences to present clinical, Real-World Evidence and value data, when appropriate.
Excellent understanding of external laws, codes, and company policies that apply to the healthcare industry.
Supports and leads a positive team culture.
Education/Certification Requirements:
Terminal D Degree (MD, PharmD, or PhD) required.
Training in Health Economics & Outcomes Research, Epidemiology, or other Health Services Research preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience is required (managed care/health plan, hospital administration, clinical pathway or formulary decision maker, industry experience, etc.) with demonstrable evidence of successfully partnering with customers and achieving shared goals and outcomes.
At least 2-3 years of experience in oncology and hematological malignancies is required with strong knowledge of clinical development/operations, research conduct, and working knowledge of Food & Drug Administration (FDA) requirements.
Developing and implementing strategy across complex healthcare environments with an ability to influence without authority and mobilize colleagues to action around shared goals.
Strong ability to lead, influence, and work in a matrixed environment regardless of reporting structure.
A strong knowledge and demonstrated ability to conduct Clinical and Evidence-based Value discussions with key decision-makers and organized care systems.
Advanced, in-depth understanding of the US healthcare system, payers, reimbursement method, integrated health systems, and utilization of RWE and data analytics
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical information and data.
Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written.
Individuals should be able to apply critical thinking processes to optimize strategic initiatives and decision-making.
The incumbent in this position may be required to perform other duties, as assigned.
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $217,000 - $256,000 annually. This pay range is based on the market range for positions of this type. However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, commissions, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
